Tina’s 70th Birthday

Next week, Tina Turner will celebrate her 70th birthday.  This year her birthday falls on the Thanksgiving holiday.  No plans have been revealed as to what the legendary singer might be doing to celebrate the occasion, but you can be certain that fans will be playing some of her greatest hits as they feast on turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.

Other well-known celebrities who are celebrating another year older this Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) are bassist John McVie of Fleetwood Mac, country singer Joe Nichols and singer Natasha Bedingfield.

Even though Tina is going to be in her seventh decade, she hasn’t slowed down one bit.  Catch her live onstage by going to StubHub and be sure to get your pair of Tina Turner tickets well in advance!

Would you name your horse that?

The names people pick for their animals are always amusing—especially if they decide naming them after celebrities. For example, Victoria Beckham recently made the news when she acquired two “micropigs,” pigs bred to be extremely small, and named them after her good friends Elton John and his partner, David Furnish. Thanks, Victoria—we’re sure they appreciate the thought.

But an article in The Exponent raised our eyebrows. The article is about a group of students that belong to Purdue Equine Assisted Programs, which raises money for a foundation that brings disabled children in contact with horses. The contact is highly therapeutic for them, and the students help by raising money for the program. But what surprised us was the horse names: “Tina Turner, a miniature horse, was found to have dental issues that weren’t caught by a previous dentist. She had lost a lot of weight and dislocated a leg before this problem was fixed. Tina Turner is working with a massage therapist and physical therapist to treat these muscles.”

What, precisely, are they trying to imply about the classic soul singer? Well, she is sort of a workhorse—she’s turned out plenty of hits in her day.

In any case, watch her loosen her reins at one of her live shows by getting Tina Turner tickets at StubHub.

Design Icon Bob Mackie Delivers Fashion For Tina

Bob Mackie is a renowned and recognized icon in the fashion industry.  He has managed to work with practically every major celebrity in Hollywood throughout his 40-year career.  One of his most notable clients is Cher, whose wild costumes have really helped to define her style and her personality.  One of the most memorable costumes that he designed for Cher was the crazy outfit that she wore as a presenter at the 1986 Academy Awards ceremony.  You remember the American-Indian inspired headdress and jeweled loin cloth.

But Cher is just one of Mackie’s famous clients.  He has also designed costumes for tours by Tina Turner, Pink and Mitzi Gaynor.  He said, “With Tina Turner, it’s all about the legs and being able to move.  She’s such a dynamic performer.  Once she steps on that stage, she never stops.  During her last tour she changed costumes many, many times during each show.”

Make sure to see Tina and her Mackie-designed costumes live onstage with your pair of Tina Turner tickets from StubHub.

Tina’s “Acid Queen”

Tina Turner’s “Acid Queen” was featured on her album of the same name, which also has the hits “Baby Get It On” and “Whole Lotta Love.” It was first released in 1976 and a different recording of the ballad was also included on the soundtrack to the 1975 film Tommy, where Tina also stars as the Acid Queen. The tune was the last Tina Turner ballad to be produced by Ike Turner before her split from him.

“Acid Queen” was also featured in the Tina compilation albums The Collected Recordings - Sixties to Nineties, Tina!: Her Greatest Hits and The Platinum Collection. The song has also been included in a few Ike & Tina Turner compilations including the album Proud Mary: The Best of Ike & Tina Turner.

Take a listen to “Acid Queen” here and make sure to purchase a pair of Tina Turner tickets today from StubHub.

“Nutbush City Limits”

One of Tina Turner’s most popular ballads is actually an ode to her hometown of Nutbush.  The tiny Tennessee town consisted mainly of farms, a couple of stores and few churches at the time Tina (Anna Mae Bullock) was born.  If fans listen closely to Tina’s lyrics, they can get an idea of perhaps what life was like in the little community of Nutbush.  “A church house gin house/A school house outhouse/On highway number nineteen/The people keep the city clean.  They call it Nutbush on Nutbush/The call it Nutbush city limits.  Twenty-five for speed limit/Motorcycle not allowed in it/You go to store on Friday/You can to church on Sunday/You go to the fields on weekdays/And have a picnic on Labor Day/You go to town on Saturday/And you go to church every Sunday.”

That pretty much sums up the Nutbush city limits.  Now Tina’s birthtown has gained national recognition.  If you happen to be in Tennessee, swing by and also don’t forget to reserve your spot at one of the singer’s upcoming concerts by going to StubHub and getting your own pair of Tina Turner tickets.

Proud Tina

She took the beginning of this song and she delivered it nice and easy, but then she did the finish rough….just like she said she would.  This rendition of “Proud Mary” features Ike and Tina collaborating on one of the songs the duo is most well-known for.  Tina’s vocal abilities lend themselves beautifully to this ballad and you will be enchanted by the incredible talent of young Tina.  The song was originally written and performed by Credence Clearwater Revival, but Tina’s version has become legendary as well.

Tina Turner left Ike Turner after years of abuse and struck out on her own in the music industry.  It turns out, she didn’t need him.  Today, Tina still attracts thousands of fans to her concerts across the globe…and that voice is still legendary, no matter what song she sings.  If you want to see her live onstage, get your own pair of Tina Turner tickets from StubHub.

You Can’t Beat the Hair

“We Don’t Need Another Hero” is considered to be one of Tina’s greatest songs and music videos.  The video features her dressed in a heavy chain mail gown, completely in character as Aunt Entity from the 1985 film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.  The lyrical content of the ballad mostly revolves around anti-war and anti-violence sentiments, and the track itself received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song in 1986 as well as a Grammy nod for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The video is quite powerful, as it features Tina, standing atop an illuminated pedestal as the camera swoops around and beneath her.  In the background, scenes from the movie are played as Tina provides the theme song.

Tina Turner is still a huge force on the music scene, and this video proves why she has enjoyed such lasting success.  See this diva live, onstage by going to StubHub and getting your own pair of Tina Turner tickets.

A Little Bit About Nutbush, Tennessee

Tina Turner isn’t from a big city like New York or Los Angeles.  In fact she is from a small, rural area located in Haywood County, Tennessee.  The area gets most of its income from agriculture and in 1939 a baby named Anna Mae Bullock was born.  Residents couldn’t know then that the little girl would one day put little, old Nutbush on a map.  Tina’s own song, titled, “Nutbush City Limits” is all about the small town where she grew up and although the houses that she was raised in no longer exist, many fans still make pilgrimages to the area to see where life started for the celebrated singer.  In addition to Turner, other pioneer musicians from the town include: Hambone Willie and Sleepy John Estes.

Anna Mae Bullock has come along way since being a Nutbush farm girl.  Make sure to catch her live onstage by going to StubHub and getting your own pair of Tina Turner tickets today.
