‘Blind Side’ v. ‘Twilight’

The producers of the Tim McGraw/Sandra Bullock feature film The Blind Side picked one heck of an opening date. The Blind Side officially opens in theaters across the nation today, Nov. 20, and it’s competing against perhaps the biggest saga of the decade: Twilight. The second Twilight film New Moon also comes out today and is expected to set several records for attendance as teen fans screech their way into the theaters.

While teen girls flock to theaters around the nation to see Twilight this weekend, perhaps their parents and older moviegoers will opt for a more sentimental and emotional film to see: The Blind Side. The documentary-style movie about Baltimore Ravens football player Michael Oher is expected to fare extremely well at the box office, as well, and the Vancouver Observer even gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, surpassing New Moon’s 3 out of 5.

Still, last night’s midnight screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon smashed all kinds of records, garnering more than $22.2 million in ticket sales by 12 a.m. this morning, outselling the previous record-seller Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. There’s no way The Blind Side will compete with this kind of success on opening night, but perhaps Tim McGraw will help the football film achieve monumental success in the long run, as this movie is expected to make a huge impact on the scene, as well.

Tim McGraw Makes People’s List of Sexy Celebrities!

Country music hotshot Tim McGraw is well in his forties, but age is no number to People magazine, which published its annual list of the sexiest men alive this week. In People‘s “Sexiest Men Alive” issue, Captain Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp took top honors as the sexiest man of the year, though Tim McGraw’s blazing looks garnered him a spot on the list, as well.

McGraw made an appearance on the American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks this week, where he talked about the award and what it means to him and his family and friends. Claiming that seeing his face on People‘s compilation of the “Sexiest Men Alive” issue was “pretty cool,” McGraw’s main worries seemed to be what his band (the Dancehall Doctors) had to say about the award. “They’re not gonna let me live it down,” McGraw said ACC, “but they’re just jealous ‘cause they’re not in it.”

McGraw’s country star wife Faith Hill is, perhaps, equally as sexy, as she’s been featured numerous times in People‘s annual “Most Beautiful People” issue. As for the other men included in this year’s “Sexiest Men Alive” issue, other musicians like Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Gavin Rossdale, Josh Groban and John Legend also made the cut.

McGraw to Make a Pop Crossover? Don’t Count on It!

It seems like the popular trend in the country music industry right now is to have crossover appeal into the pop genre, but one country star who won’t be following this pattern anytime soon is Tim McGraw, who prefers forays into acting and cologne to a radio-ready career with pop music. McGraw sat down to partake in an interview with the Dan Patrick Show recently, talking about (of course) sports, his flat screen television, upcoming film and music career.

Perhaps one of the most quotable moments from this Tim McGraw interview on the Dan Patrick Show was when the country crooner was asked if he would consider covering a pop song. To this, McGraw answered, “I couldn’t go pop with an ass full of firecrackers.” Fair enough – it looks like he won’t be the next Taylor Swift, but Tim McGraw still has crossover appeal with his newfound acting chops, which will be tested this Friday when his new film The Blind Side makes its world premiere! Check out the rest of the Dan Patrick interview here, and get ready for The Blind Side to hit movie theaters this weekend!

McGraw in the Spotlight as ‘Blind Side’ Awaits Debut

Country music icon Tim McGraw is having one incredible week as both country music singer and big-time actor, and his feature film The Blind Side hasn’t even been released yet! The official opening date for the Sandra Bullock-fronted Blind Side is this Friday, Nov. 20, and in preparing for its opening McGraw has been one busy cowboy, jetting around the country in a series of interviews and public appearances this week promoting the film.

Last night, McGraw made a cameo on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and he’s also a featured guest on The View this morning. Tim McGraw is also on the cover of People magazine this week, and he of course was on hand at the world premiere of The Blind Side last week, as well. The “Southern Voice” vocalist is also heating up the Billboard charts with his current smash single, and his “Southern Voice” rocketed to No. 13 on the Country Songs chart this week, marking its highest peak on the charts yet. How will The Blind Side fare once it debuts in theaters across the nation this weekend? Stay tuned to find out!

McGraw Stands up for Taylor Swift

No one interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech (or any of them, for that matter) at last week’s 43rd annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, but there’s plenty of controversy arising over the young starlet’s capture of Entertainer of the Year at last Thursday’s awards show. Some country music artists have made statements questioning Swift’s accrual of the award because of her young age and fairly new arrival onto the country music scene, but not all country music icons feel that way.

One of Swift’s biggest supporters in the whole Entertainer of the Year debate has been Tim McGraw, the vocalist after whom Swift’s debut single was titled, and it was McGraw and wife Faith Hill who handed off the trophy to Swift as she accepted the night’s biggest award. McGraw has also been an avid supporter of the teen country/pop princess, and when asked about his thoughts on Swift’s win as Entertainer of the Year, he said, “I’ve been doing this a long time and she’s got a better head on her shoulders than I do, so I don’t know how anybody could complain about that.” Wife Faith Hill also declared her support for the “Love Story” vocalist, giving Taylor Swift the McGraw/Hill stamp of approval!

McGraw’s ‘Blind Side’ Premieres in Nashville

The Tim McGraw/Sandra Bullock feature film The Blind Side made its Nashville debut last night at Regal Green Hills, and a stunning McGraw hosted the VIP event, which included several of Music City’s biggest stars. The Blind Side, a documentary-themed film following the life of NFL player Michael Oher and his rise from poverty to a shining football career, also revolves around the Tuohy family that took in Oher as an orphan, and the Tuohy family was on hand for last night’s premiere in Nashville, where both Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy sang the praises of Bullock, McGraw and The Blind Side crew.

Speaking to the media at last night’s event, Leigh Anne Tuohy said her family was shocked by the public’s sympathetic reaction to the film, saying, “I think Michael said it best. He called me and said, ‘Mom, why is everybody crying at the commercials? Don’t people understand it has a happy ending?’”

The Blind Side opens nationwide on Nov. 20, and stars in attendance at last night’s red carpet event to get a sneak peek of the film include country music singers like Kix Brooks, Julianne Hough, Randy Travis, Martina McBride, members of Lady Antebellum, Clint Black, Rodney Atkins and more.

Without Awards, McGraw Still Made His ‘Southern Voice’ Heard at CMAs

Because of the absence of new music that was, largely, 2008 for Tim McGraw, the country crooner wasn’t nominated for any Country Music Association (CMA) Awards this year, but last night’s big event wasn’t exactly sans-McGraw, either. The countrified vocalist stepped onstage to rock the audience with his new hit song “Southern Voice,” and he also made a cameo alongside wife Faith Hill as presenters of the night’s last award – Entertainer of the Year.

While Tim McGraw had a strong onstage presence at last night’s CMA Awards despite no nominations for the ‘09 awards, he was also brought to attention thanks to Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, the awards show’s co-hosts. Paisley and Underwood were on a roll last night, taking playful jabs at everyone from Kanye West to Kid Rock. At one point in the show, Underwood even told Paisley that he smelled “amazing, fantastic,” to which Paisley answered with, “Thank you, I’m wearing McGraw by Tim McGraw.” This, of course, got McGraw and Hill almost to tears in the audience, before Underwood came back with: “What a coincidence, because I’m wearing Faith Hill Parfum.” The comedic punch was just one of the Paisley/Underwood zings of the night, but it sure showed that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are still the power couple of the country music industry.

More on the Life of Tim McGraw

There’s no denying that Tim McGraw is one of the most successful country music artists of the decade and perhaps the century. He’s carved a place in country music’s hall of fame and continues to be an important part of the growing contemporary country music movement, but how has he gotten this far? He hasn’t been on Easy Street forever, and McGraw has recently given glimpses of his abusive childhood and past drinking problem in a series of unrelated interviews, some highlighted in this week’s issue of People magazine.

In the People interview, Tim McGraw gave his most honest and in-depth answers to the questions asked, declaring he wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of his wife, Faith Hill. McGraw said that Hill has been a blessing for him, and without her he may not even be alive today. “I’d be dead,” McGraw told People. “Oh yeah, I would have partied too hard. I might have caught myself somewhere along the way and put the brakes on. I don’t know if I would have gone [to rehab]; I don’t think I could have been talked into that during those times.” McGraw gives these heartfelt answers as part of a brave revelation, and he certainly should be applauded for overcoming such hardships.

Tim McGraw on ‘All Access Nashville’ Tomorrow!

Country crooner Tim McGraw isn’t nominated to win any trophies at Wednesday night’s Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to be in on the Nashville excitement surrounding country music’s biggest event of the year. The “Southern Voice” vocalist won’t be accepting an award Wednesday night, but he is partaking in some of the other activities surrounding the CMAs, including a cameo on “All Access Nashville” tomorrow night at 10 p.m. Hosted by Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, “All Access Nashville” is a TV special in conjunction with the CMAs that highlights some of the biggest names in the country music industry.

During tomorrow night’s segment of “All Access Nashville,” Tim McGraw will be one of the several superstars interviewed by Roberts, and he’ll even take the news anchor skeet shooting. The Nashville segment will also feature interviews with Carrie Underwood (co-host of the CMAs), Martina McBride, Loretta Lynn, Vince Gill and Rosanne Cash. One thing the segment won’t feature? An in-depth analysis of McGraw’s recently talked-about abuse as a child. Of the situation, Roberts said, “I think that’s why I work so well with some celebrities, because they understand I understand exactly where they’re coming from.” Don’t miss out as Tim McGraw goes “All Access Nashville!”

Back At’cha, Faith!

Faith Hill aired Tim McGraw’s dirty laundry earlier this week when she spoke of her husband’s bad habits while appearing as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but it looks like Tim McGraw might have gotten the final word. McGraw’s face is on the cover of People magazine this week, and in the featured article the country crooner talks about his family life and all things Faith. In the People interview, McGraw talked about the possibility of more children on the way (not likely, he says) but he also spoke of the couple’s deep bond, saying that he ditched his rock star tendencies after meeting the vivacious blonde.

Tim McGraw never speaks with anything but utmost respect for his lovely wife, and in the People article, which hits newsstands today, Mr. Faith Hill said, “Faith saved my life in a lot of ways – from myself more than anything. I can go down a dark road sometimes, when you’re not feeling good about yourself, and she pulls me out. My wife makes me a better man.” Many of his hit songs through the years such as “My Best Friend” signify his feelings for his wife, and while McGraw’s new album Southern Voice largely has yet to be explored by the public, perhaps we’ll see some of his adoration come through in the album’s track list (though not in songs like “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure with You,” we’re sure).
