Rascal Flatts Announces Free Show in West Virginia

Country music fans in Huntington, West Virginia got a pleasant surprise this week, when Grammy Award-winning country music group Rascal Flatts announced that band members would be making a cameo this Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center in Huntington. Flatts’ free performance will be in conjunction with a food festival hosted by Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, and the performance will be filmed on the ABC television show in February.

Flatts’ 30-minute acoustic set in Huntington will commence this Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and 500 free tickets will be given away between now and then to fans in the area. The Rascal Flatts gig is all part of the city’s food festival, which takes place Saturday on 3rd Avenue in front of Pullman Square between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For those who don’t snag tickets to the free Rascal Flatts show, the concert will be broadcast live during the festival on 3rd Avenue.

The countrified boy band is currently on a break from their Unstoppable Tour, which will resume on Jan. 15 in Uncasville, CT. Saturday’s concert in Huntington is one of the surprises Rascal Flatts has recently sprung on fans, and more public appearances are sure to happen before the next installment of the trio’s tour begins.

Rascal Flatts Is a Top-Selling Group!

Rascal Flatts has sold millions of copies of the group’s albums and has also sold out arenas like crazy ever since carving out a spectacular country music career in the late 1990s, and it’s no doubt that this contemporary country music trio has what it takes to make fans old and young bond over their brand of catchy music and country appeal. Flatts has been taking the nation by storm over the last several months as the band’s Unstoppable Tour has become one of the most popular country music touring shows of the year, and now it’s been confirmed that the Unstoppable Tour is a giant money-maker, as the tour has made Pollstar’s Top 20 Concert Tours list.

Coming in as the 12th-ranked concert tour right now in North America, Rascal Flatts’ Unstoppable Tour has collected more than $800,000, making just less than fellow country music acts Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban. Rascal Flatts Update

Rascal Flatts appears to be taking some much-needed time off from the group’s hectic Unstoppable Tour to prepare for the next leg to start up again in January, but the band’s Twitter page proves otherwise. While all is quiet on the touring front, Flatts continues to be one of the busiest bands in the industry, playing impromptu performances and making other public appearances, as well.

Joe Don Rooney, Rascal Flatts’ chief tweeter, has been keeping fans up with the latest on the trio, tweeting last week that Flatts was shooting a commercial for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (a picture from the shoot can be seen here.) The band was also, of course, on hand for last week’s CMA Awards, with Rooney tweeting from the awards show, giving Lady Antebellum some respect for the Vocal Group of the Year win.

Last Friday, Rooney was apparently in Nashville, as well, as he tweeted on Nov. 13: “Had a blast playing downtown Nash 2nite it was off the hook! Chank & I just Jam’d all night long! Thx for the [sic] y’all, -jdr God Bless!!!”  Gary LeVox also let fans in on what he does during his free time, making the rare tweet on Monday saying he was in Missouri smoking “a good 10 pt.”

Don’t Forget Flatts in ‘Cars’ Sountrack!

While Rascal Flatts fans wait patiently for the countrified trio to announce further tour dates for the next leg of their Unstoppable Tour this winter, the band’s followers can snack on a little something to tide them over until the group’s next rendezvous in town. That’s because Disney-Pixar’s hit movie Cars was released in special edition Blu-ray Hi-Def last week as part of the Cars Blu-Ray Combo Pack Gift Set, on sale now for $49.99. This Disney-Pixar film features Rascal Flatts’ smash single “Life Is a Highway” as a sort of theme song to the car-themed excitement, and this fact is likely one of the reasons that Cars has fared so well since its initial release in 2006.

Known for its superb soundtrack more than anything, the “Life Is a Highway”-aided movie Cars also features music by John Mayer, James Taylor and Sheryl Crow. The voice cast of this Disney-Pixar gem includes Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Michael Keaton, Richard Petty, Cheech Marin, George Carlin, Tony Shalhoub and Paul Newman, signifying the film’s attempts at going all out. Of course, it’s “Life Is a Highway” that moves the film right along, and Rascal Flatts fans can now listen to the group’s hit song as they wait to get tickets to an upcoming concert!

Rascal Flatts Adds More Dates to Tour Schedule

The Unstoppable Tour will, in fact, go on, and the musicians behind its enormous success have turned this summer’s hottest tour into a marathon, bringing the country tunes of Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker to sold-out arenas and screaming fans around the nation. Just days after losing the Vocal Group of the Year Award at the CMAs to Lady Antebellum, Flatts continues proving this group is an ‘unstoppable’ force regardless, continuing to add dates onto the next leg of their Unstoppable Tour.

Flatts had previously announced a slew of upcoming concert dates in Canada, but this week they’ve also added a date on Feb. 4 in Evansville, Indiana at the Roberts Stadium that perhaps is even a sign that there are lots more shows soon to come from this high-energy trio. Other tour dates so far announced are: Jan. 16 in Uncasville, CT; Jan. 23 in Charleston, WV; Jan. 28 in London, Ontario; Jan. 29 in Kanata, Ontario; and Jan. 30 in Hamilton, Ontario. Stay tuned to see where else Rascal Flatts will take the Unstoppable Tour in 2010 and in the meantime listen to the group’s current hit single “Why” as it keeps climbing the spots on the Billboard charts!

CMA Results Yield Questions about Country’s Most Popular Artists

What do Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood all have in common? All of these artists were big winners at the 2008 CMA Awards, but none of them garnered trophies at this year’s CMAs. Taylor Swift swept the awards this week, but other big winners at the 43rd annual CMAs included Sugarland and Lady Antebellum, ignoring George Strait and Brooks & Dunn while perhaps signifying a huge shift in the country music industry over the last 12 months.

Flatts lost the award of Vocal Group of the Year to Lady A, marking the first time in five years they haven’t taken the award, and this is only part of what the media has called the changing of the times, which now features artists like Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum at the reigns. Sure, there was an unmentioned hole in the CMA broadcast on Wednesday as some of country music’s biggest acts to date were left in the dust, but does this mean that country music has changed completely over the last year?

No – at least not for Rascal Flatts. The explosive trio still continues selling out stadiums by the thousands, also pumping out one of the year’s most successful albums and still reaping the success of its hit singles. Flatts is up for awards at the forthcoming AMAs and People’s Choice Awards, letting the world know they’re still an ‘unstoppable’ force. The CMAs aren’t everything, and artists like Rascal Flatts will continue to dominate on the country music scene even without a CMA award in 2009.

Keeping up with Awards Season

Rascal Flatts was on hand for last night’s Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, but the ‘unstoppable’ trio didn’t leave the night with a trophy. Instead, the Nashville-based band saw its six-year reign in the Vocal Group of the Year category ended by newcomers Lady Antebellum, but that doesn’t mean that Jay DeMarcus, Joe Don Rooney and Gary LeVox have disappeared from the country music scene.

Even though they lost the Vocal Group of the Year awards at last night’s CMAs, Rascal Flatts has a chance to make up for going home empty-handed last night, as they’ve recently been announced as nominees for the upcoming People’s Choice Awards. Nominations were revealed earlier this week, and Flatts will be making an appearance at this year’s awards show, where the radiant boy band will go up against Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift for Favorite Country Artist.

The 2010 People’s Choice Awards will commence Jan. 6 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and the big event will be hosted by Queen Latifah. Here’s to hoping Rascal Flatts will walk away with a trophy, and in the meantime vote for Rascal Flatts to win an American Music Award (AMA) on Nov. 22, as the trio is nominated for Favorite Country Music Band, Duo or Group and also for Favorite Country Music Album (Unstoppable).

All is Calm on the RF Front

It’s been said there’s always a calm before the storm, and so it is that everything is quiet on the Rascal Flatts front today. The award-winning trio is taking some much-needed time off before embarking on the next leg of their wildly popular American Living Unstoppable Tour, and guesses are being tossed around for where this countrified crew will hit the road as part of the next leg of the tour. There are already a few announced tour dates scattered throughout the month of January, and there’s sure to be an absolute frenzy for concert tickets once the Rascal Flatts’ camp announces its next set of dates.

For now, however, Rascal Flatts fans are left only with the hit song “Why” and the CMA Awards waiting in the wings. The last post on the group’s Twitter account was from Oct. 30 (“Portland what an amazing time tonight… you made the final night for this year nothing short of amazing!!! Thx Flatts fans! –jdr”) leaving a lull on the Flatts front. When will the storm hit and the Unstoppable Tour continue in record-shattering mode with Rascal Flatts leading the way? It’s sure to come soon, so stick around for more details on all upcoming Flatts news!

Projectsions Give Flatts the Upper Hand at CMAs

A recent CMT poll predicting the outcome of Wednesday night’s Country Music Association (CMA) Awards gives the night’s biggest award to Taylor Swift, Ms. Contemporary Country, but don’t count out Rascal Flatts to win one of the evening’s other prestigious awards. The same CMT poll that predicts that teen queen Taylor Swift will win Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year (Fearless) has also named Rascal Flatts the Vocal Group of the Year, giving them an edge over category competitors the Eagles, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town and the Zac Brown Band.

While country music fans will still have to wait until Wednesday night (Nov. 11) to see exactly how this year’s CMAs play out, other predicted winners for this week’s much-anticipated event include Carrie Underwood’s “I Told You So” for Song of the Year, George Strait for Male Vocalist of the Year and Brooks & Dunn for Vocal Duo of the Year. The CMT poll asked music fans at random the question of “who do you think will win?” at the CMAs instead of “who do you want to win?,” and the winners will be announced in just two days, so stick around to see how Rascal Flatts fares at this year’s CMAs!

Current Leg of the Unstoppable Tour Comes to a Close

What a year it’s been for Rascal Flatts. The explosive country music trio has done everything from rocking out center stage at Rockefeller Center to selling out Wrigley Field and plenty more over the last several months as they’ve taken the American Living Unstoppable Tour around North America, and the band recently ended its 2009 jaunt on tour, shutting down the Unstoppable romp in Portland after selling a whopping 550,000 tickets in 39 shows. These ticket sales are all since June 2009, and the band’s incredible run may not be the end of all things Unstoppable for Jay DeMarcus, Joe Don Rooney and Gary LeVox.

While the Unstoppable Tour is finished for 2009, another leg of the tour will start back up in January, with tour dates already starting to trickle in. Flatts has already announced tour dates in Rochester, NY on Jan. 21 at the Blue Cross Arena and Jan. 23 in Charleston, WV at the Charleston Civic Center, and more dates are sure to come as the new year ensues. Will Rascal Flatts be able to trump their record of 550,000 ticket sales in 2009 and sell even more in 2010? Judging from the trio’s incredible year in 2009, we say yes!
