Slayer’s going to show Lars how to drum

Blabbermouth has an interview up from Rhythm magazine with Dave Lombardo, drummer for Slayer, and it is a fantastically fun read. They talk about everything, including other metal bands—and at one point, Lombardo challenges Lars to hang out so he can teach him how to really bang the skins.

“No disrespect to Lars [Ulrich], because Lars is great and he’s a very nice guy, but he needs to spend a week at my house and we need to sit down and play. I could show him — ‘No, Lars, like this!’… ‘Let’s chill, let’s relax, have some coffee and let’s play!’ Hahahahaha!”

That final laugh really gets us. This is definitely a happy go lucky guy, and we bet that he and Lars would get along just fine. It would actually be really cool if Blabbermouth could tag along and report on the proceedings. A true exchange of information could be had, and two of metal’s best working drummers would be in one room trading beats. It would be even cooler if the two bands would go on tour like we all believed they were going to earlier in the year.

At least you can still see them separately. Get Metallica tickets at StubHub.

Metallica heads south

Momento 24 has a story up today that suggests South American fans will be seeing more of Metallica in the new year. Apparently, the band has decided to play a date in Argentina, settling on Jan. 21 at the River Plate Stadium. Though not much else is solid yet, it’s assumed that the band will play a couple other concerts in South America while down there.

People forget, but one of the biggest places for metal bands to tour—besides the U.S.—is in South America. The genre is huge there, and there are a lot of Metallica fans in every country there. You can expect their tours to be epic whenever they head down south, and they are frequently sold out. Of course, the band is playing in North America right now, and you can expect those shows to be pretty packed, as well. Look for Metallica tickets at StubHub while their tour continues and you will see a variety of dates across the country. There’s sure to be a venue near you.

Metallica “crushed” by missing fan

The disappearance of Morgan Harrington is a case that is every parent’s worst nightmare. The 20-year-old Metallica fan disappeared after leaving one of the band’s shows early. All that has been recovered from her has been her cell phone, which was found in a field nearby the venue. The cell phone battery was found removed not too far away in the same field.

While there is still no news on her whereabouts, Blabbermouth is reporting that Metallica were devastated when they heard the news about the missing fan. Robert Trujillo said the following during a radio interview: “I mean, I was crushed. Stuff like this just really, really bums me out, especially when you are a parent and you have children. I mean, it’s the worst thing that you could ever imagine. And of course, you know, we’re all hoping for the best and just praying that she’s alive. It really hit a sour chord with us and bummed us out.”

Fingers crossed. Apparently the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have gotten involved, so that’s helpful at least. Get Metallica tickets at StubHub to see them on their current tour, but be sure to be safe.

BBC DJ declares Metallica album a masterpiece

This is a bit of a weird story. Let us warn you before getting into it.

Apparently there’s a DJ on BBC Radio 1, Zane Lowe, who has a Masterpieces series. Basically, he declares a series of albums bonafide masterpieces, plays them in their entirety, then invites guests on (usually band members themselves) to talk about the creation of the record. This year he’s selected four albums—but the blog Drowned in Sound correctly points out that his choices are a little odd. Two of them—Daft Punk’s Discovery and The Street’s Original Pirate Material—came out this decade. The other two are Metallica’s Black Album and The Clash’s London Calling. To declare these albums classics or masterpieces is not exactly novel. They’ve been considered that for quite a long while.

In any case, Metallica fans probably won’t object to it, especially if Lowe has some of the band’s members come on to talk about creating the record. That could be interesting, though again, it’s not likely that anything new will come out of it. Anyways, if you’re looking for Metallica tickets, go to StubHub.

News out on Metallica’s live DVDs

Blabbermouth has a brief update today about Metallica’s upcoming live DVDs—of which there are several. The boys have been working hard in the past year, touring relentlessly and performing in a Roman coliseum in France as well as a truly epic concert in Mexico. Both shows were recorded for metal posterity, and both still have release dates that Metallica fans are watching approach with increasing anticipation.

There was even a special deal if you happen to be seeing the band live in Colombia: “According to El Espectador, Universal Music in Mexico has set a November 30 release date for METALLICA’s ‘Orgullo, Pasión Y Gloria - Tres Noches En La Ciudad De México’ (Pride, Passion And Glory Three Nights In Mexico City) DVD, recorded on June 4, 6 and 7 of this year at Foro Sol, Ciudad de México…To promote this launch, the first 5,000 people to buy tickets for METALLICA’s March 10, 2010 concert in Bogotá, Columbia will have access to the first edition of the DVD.”

Sounds like it might be time to brush up on your Spanish and head down to South America. Get Metallica tickets at StubHub.

Metallica’s Peru date to be one of biggest in nation’s history

Hey, guys. Let’s talk about Peru. Specifically, let’s talk about how Peruvians love them some Metallica. The band is going to be coming down to the South American continent in the near future, and with them will be all those awesome, eardrum-rattling hits that fans have come to love over the years. According to Living in Peru.com, the show down there is expected to be one of the biggest ever for a concert in the nation, with about 50,000 people expected to gather for the January date.

“The band will perform in Lima as part of a world tour promoting his latest album ‘Death Magnetic,’ which also will take them to Colombia, Venezuela, Chile and Argentina. If the ticket sales meet the organizer’s expectations, this concert could become the most massive in Peruvian history.”

That’s pretty exciting news, to say the least, and you can bet that a lot of people from outside the city the band will be playing in will be driving to see them. It’s definitely a big deal, so purchase your Metallica tickets ahead of time at StubHub.

Metallica clothes? You’re eating at Quizno’s tonight.

There’s a post on Times Union.com that begs the eternal question for metal fans everywhere: If you’re dressed to impress for a metal show…can you still get a nice meal somewhere? The problem, of course, is that if you’re dressed in a leather jacket, scuffed boots, torn jeans and a T-shirt, then you probably aren’t “acceptable” to most fine-dining establishments. Over at the Table Hopping blog, this is exactly the conundrum a pair of diners are facing. They want to go to the Metallica show, and will be dressed for the occasion. But they also want to go to a nice dinner beforehand. How do you balance those things out and avoid hitting up Quizno’s in the process?

According to the blogger, the answer is to sit at the bar. “The staff won’t mind, and other diners will forgive you because they’ll understand that you’re going to the concert,” he writes. That seems like a pretty decent answer. They could also probably bring a change of clothes, but that seems like an awful lot of work.

Our answer? Hit up Quizno’s with your Metallica tickets from StubHub in hand.

A first timer experiences Metallica

In a nice break from all the Morgan Harrington news, there’s a great article up on MLive.com about a reviewer going to see Metallica live for the first time ever. Needless to say, it’s an amazing experience, one that he describes as “brutally beautiful.” He was warned to prepare by wearing black, bringing industrial-strength earplugs, and listening to Metallica records for a long time before the show, to get pumped and get used to the band’s music.

What the reviewer eventually discovered is that a Metallica show is a concert unlike any other. It offers listeners an amazing experience to bond over: “I soon discovered that Metallica is a live experience unlike any other in the metal universe, partly because this band appeals to such a broad audience with fist-pumping appeal and chest-rattling goodness. Compared to most metal bands, Metallica is more melodic, plays catchier riffs and avoids the guttural vocal roar that makes some outfits laughable.” There you have it—even a guy who doesn’t listen to a lot of metal can fall in love with this band.

And you can experience this, too. Get Metallica tickets while they’re still on tour by heading over to StubHub.

Metallica crew supports breast cancer research

The color most often associated with Metallica is black. There’s the Black album, their doom-laden heavy guitar riffs, and their crew’s typically black attire. But when the band plays in Grand Rapids, Michigan tonight, they will be wearing a much more lively pink.

Why the sudden change in hue? The crew is part of Local Stagehand’s Union IATSE Local 26, and are wearing the pink to show an awareness of breast cancer. Wood 8 reported on the story, tossing in this nifty little fact: “The union local wants fans attending the show to also wear pink in what they call the Stacks & Racks Campaign. Though more women are getting mammograms to detect breast cancer early, it doesn’t strike just women. KISS founding member Peter Criss is a breast cancer survivor.”

It’s a bit of shocking revelation that men can have breast cancer, as well. But there it is—even metal band members can get breast cancer. Keep this in mind next time you see a drive supporting research.

In any case, you can get Metallica tickets for other shows at StubHub.

Massive hunt is on for Metallica fan

The Charlottesville Daily Progress has an article out about hundreds of volunteers signing up to find the missing Metallica fan who disappeared after one of the band’s concerts a few weeks back. The whereabouts of Morgan Harrington, 20, is still unknown. The band, as we’ve stated, has offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to her safe recovery. That’s also on top of $100,000 reward offered by her parents, as well.

What stands out more than anything is the dedication that the family and volunteers have for this search. They are going to keep the search up until they find something: “When one volunteer asked what the next step would be if the mystery remained after three days of searching, Harrington’s mother was quick to answer: a fourth day. Smither said the three days will train volunteers to keep the search going, if that’s necessary.”

There’s a lot of help that’s going to be needed to find her, so let’s all hope they turn up something. In the mean time, fans can continue to get Metallica tickets at StubHub.
