Kenny and Dave

Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews might have seemed like an unlikely pair when they performed Chesney’s hit “I’m Alive” together on the CMA Awards stage last week, but for both musicians it was a perfect fit. “I wrote ‘I’m Alive’ in 2005,” Kenny tells radio host Jeff Foxworthy. “I produced a record for Willie Nelson a couple years ago. He loved the song and put it on his record. When it was time for me to do the Lucky Old Sun album, I didn’t know for sure if I was going to include it on there or not. Dave and I had talked about doing something together – whether it was writing a song or singing together ... we’ve sung together a couple of times on stage [so] it just seemed like ‘I’m Alive’ was kind of a perfect fit melodically for both of us.” The two stars actually met thanks to Willie Nelson. “The first time I met Dave was at Farm Aid in 2005 in Chicago. We kept in touch ... and it just kind of went from there. In 2007, I was playing in Atlanta at the Amphitheater there. He was playing in Atlanta, but he had the night off, and he came out and we jammed on stage for a little bit, played a couple of his songs, a couple of Bob Marley songs ... it was a lot of fun.”

Kenny’s Trailer Out

Kenny Chesney’s new 3-D movie trailer has arrived! The show, which filmed the move at stadium concerts in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, Boston and Indianapolis, the footage was taken with 22 3-D camera rigs, a blimp and ancillary cameras. The show is already giving fans a sneak peak of the event, though it won’t be out until April. “It’s amazing to me how intense this footage is. It’s me in a way I’ve never seen myself—and I can’t wait to share it with my fans,” says Kenny to The Boot. “I put all of myself into my shows—a lot of heart and sweat and stuff most people might not think is all that important, but I do ... and always have. This film captures every little detail in a way that makes it even more important than I thought it was when we were working on it, and it makes my fans even more in my face than when I’m onstage, which is great!” According to USA Today, Kenny’s concert was the highest ranking show of any musical genre this year, raking in $57.6 million in 39 shows.

Kenny Chesney’s IPod

No Shoes Radio, the live radio internet stream that has since gone beyond Kenny Chesney’s IPod to iTunes Radio stations, is a hit. “When the people at iTunes told us they were into what we’re doing,” says Kenny on his website, “I was pretty blown away, because in a lot of ways this station is all about the way my iPod rolls around from reggae to rock and roll, old George Jones and some obscure Jackson Browne track. If there’s one thing about the music you hear backstage at our shows, it’s all over the place, and you can’t find that anywhere anymore, that diversity.” Already a veteran of the music radio biz when he started a station for XM, Kenny never thought it would extend to such heights. “I think most of the people coming out to our shows probably own albums by Dave Matthews and Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen and AC/ DC, not to mention Bob Marley. I’m always trying to bring my fans further and further into the experience of where and how this music comes alive, so not only were we able to spend the summer broadcasting live from our tailgate parties at the stadium show, but trying to take them into the Vibe Room, into production, anywhere people were helping bring the music to life…”

Kenny on the Past, Present and Future

Kenny Chesney’s album Lucky Old Sun is his “‘state of mind’ record,” as he calls it, talking with USA Today. The album, he said during the October 2008 interview, was created in a place of turmoil over about three years. “It’s no secret - there are about four or five songs that are about Renee,” he said, regarding the brief yet highly publisized courtship, marriage then annulment with actress Renee Zellweger. In regards to the album before that, Way Down Here, co-producer Buddy Cannon said: “It’s mostly an introverted album. His life took on a more somber tone for a while. He wrote a lot of these songs to reconnect himself with his music.” Now fans are invited to explore that experience with him as they watch the 3D video following his tour experience promoting the Lucky album. “I’ve been trying for years to have the audience closer to me and to have me be closer to them,” Chesney continues. “It was an amazing—and at times scary—experience to have cameras that close, in the air, in a blimp. But when you see what this film captures ... even for me, who’s in the eye of the storm, I was taken aback.”

Kenny Loves Taylor Swift

Though Kenny Chesney was snubbed this past Wednesday at the CMA Awards, the four time CMA Entertainer of the Year didn’t feel anything but love for the country star who took away the trophy in place of his four year reign. “I think the first thing that popped into my head was, ‘How is this happening to me right now?’” Taylor Swift, the winner of that coveted award, told Nashville radio WKRN after her win. “Kenny hugged me and that was one of the most amazing things because we’d been texting all day…we did the whole ‘I love you so much no matter what happens tonight.’” Kenny gave Taylor a big hug and kiss when Taylor’s name was announced that night; he walked away empty-handed that evening.

Though Kenny Chesney fans were pretty disappointed when they learned about his break from touring in 2010, they should be ecstatic to learn that a filming of the concert series throughout 2009 will be available across the country this season. The concert film Summer in 3D was shot in five cities over six nights and was first previewed by Kenny after rehearsing for the CMA Awards Tuesday night. The film is set to begin airing in April.

Kenny’s Former Wife Moves On

According to Ace Show Biz, Kenny Chesney’s former wife has finally moved on from her brief marriage to the country star as she and Bradley Cooper are now engaged. The two are apparently moving the relationship amidst breakup rumors to the next level. A source says ‘It’s very serious. As soon as his mom gives the sign off, he’s going to propose. Renee’s and Bradley’s previous marriages [to Kenny Chesney and Jennifer Esposito respectively] both ended after only four months. They have that in common - it’s one of the things that brought them together.” Though neither party’s rep’s have confirmed that they were actually a couple, they have been spotted together on several occasions as well as being photographed cuddling in Barcelona, Spain recently. The two met while filming the new horror-thriller Case 39, set for release January 1st. Apparently the two will be spending the holidays together, continues the source, as they head home for Thanksgiving to Bradley’s place.

Kenny Plans to Focus on Personal Life, Not Touring

Kenny Chesney’s new 3-D film is all everyone can talk about, particularly Kenny, who says he knew that this day would come and is excited to share a close up concert with everyone. “The show is expected to play to at least 750 screens in April,” says Rory Bruer, Sony’s head of distribution. “Kenny’s not going to be touring next year,” he says to USA Today. “This is going to be a chance for (fans) to spend some time with Kenny, and I think they’re going to enjoy having front-row seats.” The show will follow Kenny around as he performs his sold out shows, special concerts (like Pittsburgh’s houseboat concert on the Ohio river before heading to the Heinz Field) and his wild antics. Though he isn’t doing a full summer tour, he will be performing at several country festivals during the sweltering summer months. “I’m still going to do eight to 10 shows,” he admits, though he plans on focusing more on the things he has left behind while touring annually - like the movie, a new album, No Shoes Radio and a love life. “I’ve been giving to one thing for so long, and that’s just not OK with me anymore.”

Kenny Hitting the Silver Screen This Year

Kenny Chesney might not be scheduled for a full concert tour this summer, but his 2009 concert will be hitting the theater’s across the country for a special series title Summer in 3 D. The country’s top selling concert act filmed throughout his show this summer and will premiere the live tour shots throughout select wide screens in April. The stadium performances caught via a wide screen lens will showcase the more intimate performances. “We did a 35 minute show with all the tailgaters, right on the water,” Chesney said to USA Today during his Pittsburgh tour. “Unless you’re down there, nobody gets to see that.” The show is like many other top sellers, and as Kenny has sold at least one million tickets annually for eight years, it comes as no surprise that the show will now air nationwide. “I’ve been trying for years to have the audience closer to me and to have me be closer to them,” Chesney says. “With this production, they can’t get any closer.” Apparently over 20 cameras followed him during his concerts in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco and Foxborough.

How to Be a Kenny Chesney Fan

According to eHow.com, there is a way to be a Kenny Chesney fan. Let’s check out the steps:

1.
Appreciate his roots. Kenny hails from small-town Luttrell, Tennessee and still holds dear the old-fashioned values under which he was raised. The song “Back Where I Come From,” which includes the line “I’m an old Tennessean,” epitomizes how much his origins define who he is today.

Step
2 Understand that he has loved and lost twice. Kenny’s engagement to former fiancé Mandy Weals ended in 1999 and he spent many years recovering from the loss. His 5-month marriage to Renee Zellweger in 2005 ended in annulment for reasons still not public, but Kenny admits, and a Kenny Chesney fan will respect, that he has learned lessons from both relationships. Themes about love, like celebrating its joys, looking back on bittersweet first loves, and moving on after the romance ends recur throughout many of his songs.

Step
3 Relate to his need for a tropical paradise escape, both physically and spiritually. Kenny makes his second home in the Caribbean, where he relaxes, parties, dreams of being Jimmy Buffet and feels inspired to write.

Step
4 Attend a live concert of this three-time winner of the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year award. No Kenny Chesney fan experience would be complete without experiencing a live performance. Kenny displays such antics as flying over the crowd on a trapeze, bombarding the audience with giant bouncing orange balloons and stimulating wild praise from the front rows for his signature gyrations.

Step
5 Agree that he is attractive even though (or because of) his baldness. Under his hallmark cowboy hats and baseball caps Kenny sports a shiny pate, but the gleam of his muscles will turn any fan’s head. Regardless, he is not the first country musician to hide a receding hairline, including his good buddy Tim McGraw.

If you want to become a Kenny Chesney fan, the best and more important factor is to get Kenny Chesney tickets from StubHub.
