Urban’s AMA Award and Breakthrough
As Keith Urban’s latest tour is sponsored by Verizon Wireless, the country music star has been appearing at random Verizon Wireless retailers all over the country performing a free concert. On Saturday Keith visited a Pasadena, California store for a free acoustic show where he invited a small fan up on stage to play one of the five songs he performed.
Yet the biggest news Keith Urban could have gotten this weekend was the award for Country Male Artist, which he picked up ahead of Jason Aldean and Darius Rucker at the American Music Awards on Sunday evening. After accepting the award on stage, he admitted to the Los Angeles Times that he’ll be looking forward to spending some family time together with his wife, Nicole Kidman, and one year old daughter Sunday Rose. “This is the first time we’ll be able to take her to Australia,” he admitted. “I just love playing music. I’ve come from a place where I’ve played in front of three people to a place where I play in front of thousands.”

Keith’s Rocky Road to Success
Keith Urban’s success hasn’t been instantaneous. From working in an industry that isn’t prominent in his home country of Australia to finally making it in the States but being drowned by his own additions, the road has been tough. “It was difficult,” Urban said to CBS News. “I mean, it was a difficult time for me in Nashville. You know, there’s only sort of so much constant rejection that I can take until I didn’t know what else to do. It was an escape mechanism that sort of got out of hand, unfortunately,” he add, regarding how his addiction manefested into something so extreme. By the second time he reevaluated his life (marrying fellow Australian Nicole Kidman), he said: “It was just time for me to address some issues that’d been, obviously, getting out of hand in my life. I’m grateful that I was in a time in my life to be in such a incredibly loving, supportive environment. And to see my wife sort of just come through like that for me was unbelievable.”

Keith Urban is lucky that such a lovely lady supports him. Wife of under five years Nicole Kidman has relocated her Hollywood lifestyle for a more secluded one in Nashville. “There are certain limitations to my career because I’m based here,” she admits to the Keith Urban tickets from StubHub.
Urban’s Nominations
Keith Urban keeps getting awards for his new album, Defining Gravity. The new awards he’s been nominated are for the GQ Men of the Year Awards, in association with Chivas, for Music Act of the Year for the Australian 2009 Awards. Fans can vote for the Urban award, where he goes up against Empire of the Sun, Wolfmother, Jet and Daniel Merriweather. The winners are going to be announced in the November 25, 2009 issues of the Australian GQ Magazine. He’s also nominated for the GAC’s Top 50 Videos of 2009; fans can vote for their favorite video here, beginning today (November 17th, 2009) through November 30th and will be for Urban’s new video.
A star that was bred for Nashville, Urban talked to CBS News recently about his transition from Australian country music star to an international one. “I always wanted to come to Nashville since I was very young,” he said. “My dad’s record collection, well, really my mom and dad’s collection was all country records. I saw ‘recorded in Nashville, Tenn.,’ written on the back of all of them, and so this is where you go to make records. I think I was 7 when I told my dad I would move there.”

Urban Nominated for CMA of Australia Awards
Keith Urban isn’t just a fan favorite in the United States where he’s earned the majority of his fame. The New Zealand-born, Aussie- raised country singer has already earned tons of fame in his home country where he started his music career with the country music trio the Ranch. After moving to the States with his group and then working out on his own, it is no surprise that Urban has remained a world renowned performer, particularly in the places that helped him gain fame. Now, Urban has been nominated by the Country Music Association of Australia for four awards - best album for the uplifting set Defying Gravity, best male artist, best single for “Kiss a Girl” and best song for “Why’s It Feel so Long,” reports rttnews.com. The award show is set to be held on January 23rd in Tamworth, New South Wales. The show follows the United States version of the same awards ceremony, where Keith picked up the musical event of the year award with Brad Paisley for their hit “Start a Band.” Keith’s new album is a return to his original ties, making it a top seller on the Billboard 200.

Keith Urban and Taylor Swift Locked in Ticket Scam
Keith Urban isn’t looking positive in the recent light that exposes his ticket scandal. Urban, along with Taylor Swift, have found that their representatives are both part of the controversy that reveals thousands of fan club tickets are held back and distributed later. Thousands of tickets, according to Ticket News, were relocated to American Express and fan clubs for specific concerts for specific weeks that make buying premium seats expensive and number of actual tickets available dramatically lower. Urban’s show that was investigated reportedly had 14,900 seats available, but when the tickets went on sale to the general public more than 10,400 tickets had already been sold to American Express and Urban’s “Monkeyville” fan club members. “I think it’s terrific, but virtue of the fact that the public has no idea how many tickets actually go that way,” music industry expert Bob Lefsetz said. Representatives said that the deals beforehand help make public ticket prices cheaper as both have sold some tickets for $25 or less on recent tours. “If that’s not evidence that there needs to be more transparency, what went on with those Taylor Swift and Keith Urban shows in Tennessee, then I don’t know what is,” Pascrell told TicketNews. “It was an absolute scam.”

Keith Scalps His Own Tickets to Get More Headlines and Money for Himself
According to News Channel 5 reporter Phil Williams, Keith Urban scalped his own concert tickets to most of his concert events throughout the year, the most recent including the “We’re All for the Hall” benefit. The month long investigation concluded:
[...] our investigation discovered, this year Keith Urban struck a deal with Ticketmaster to, in essence, scalp tickets to his own shows. Internal documents show that at stops on his 2009 “Escape Together” tour, Keith Urban’s people instructed the venues to pull out 50 prime seats to be auctioned off to the highest bidders through Ticketmaster. Plus, they ordered a hold on another 150 so-called “Platinum” or “TicketExchange” seats. TicketExchange was an area of Ticketmaster’s web site that claimed to have tickets being resold — usually at inflated prices — by other fans.”
The “We’re All for the Hall” benefit was advertising tickets for just $25, but before tickets went on sale, vendors like Ticketmaster were already selling the tickets for over $100, and many of the actual tickets weren’t avaliable. “When you have a highly desireable product with incredible demand, all kinds of shenanigans go on,” music industry analyst Bob Lefsetz said. It looks like the shenanigans were done by Keith Urban this time - as Keith wanted to maintain his down home image, though he wanted to get headlines for selling out the concert and raising a ton of money. “So why advertise all tickets go on sale 10am Wednesday? Because no one is policing them, telling them to tell the truth,” Lefsetz continued.

Urban Censors Lyrics to Leave Life Private
Keith Urban is a pretty private guy. He rarely reveals secrets about his successful marriage and fatherhood, Urban often finds it difficult to keep his professional and private life separate - especially when he’s writing a new song. “On one hand, I want to keep my life private,” he says to GAC, “but on the other hand, I write and create music, so I don’t want to stifle that process in maintaining privacy at the expense of a free- formed expression in the art and in music.” Instead, Keith writes about areas of comfort. Though fans might find that a little standoffish, it isn’t affecting his work. “Obviously I write about the things that I am comfortable writing about. They are not so sacred that I can’t write about them.” These singles have been earning him tons of accolades, including the nominations he’s been getting for the CMA Awards airing this Wednesday. Urban is nominated for Album of the Year, as well as Male Vocalist, Music Event (for the single “Start a Band” with Brad Paisley, CMA’s host for the evening) and Music Video, as well as the coveted Entertainer of the Year.

Urban Scheduled to Perform at Another Country Festival This Summer
For Keith Urban fans, this might just be the best summer yet. Already announced as a spring / summer performer for Stagecoach in Indio, California, a Baton Rouge festival and the first for another in June, he has announced yet another special performance for July this year. Keith Urban is the first to announce his performance for the Country Concert at Hickory Hills Lakes in July 2010. The Australian country star is set to perform on a Saturday night as the headliner of the show. The rest of the event’s performers will be announced throughout a period of the next several months, but it looks like Keith wants his fans to really be prepared this year as he remains one of the few artists around the world that has announced so many summer skits.
The Country Concert will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary at Fort Loramie with a three day concert (instead of the traditional four day). Though the concert had previously occurred over a four day period, last year’s patrons by “overwhelming popular demand,” reports the Dayton Daily News, wanted a three day event. The event is set to be held Thursday, July 8 through Saturday, July 10.
