Mayer’s Album Predicted to Hit the Top

Billboard is already projecting - just one day out - that John Mayer will see his new album debut at number on. They think that Battle Studies could sell between 275,000 to 300,000 copies by the end of the week (Sunday, November 22nd) to make it debut at the top of the Billboard 200. If this happens, this will be the second number one debut following his 2003 set Heavier Things; his latest set, 2006’s Continuum debuted at number two with 300,000 copies sold. This is the month of new releases however, as he’s up against some top contenders. Casting Crows’ Until the Whole World Hears might follow behind, and then 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct and / or Norah Jones’ The Fall. For new pop sensations, Justin Bieber, American Idol winner Kris Allen, Them Crooked Vultures and Paul McCartney are all expected to be on the top of the list as well. Even Andrea Bocelli’s Christmas album would do well again, as it topped the list last week for best selling album with 285,000 already.

New Album Out Today

John Mayer is debuting his new album for the first time live last night at an intimate gig in New York. Fans were ecstatic to hear the new tracks from Battle Studies which includes the first singles “Who Says” and “Heartbreak Warfare.” The crowd of several hundred welcomed the familiar with the opening track “Why Georgia” from 2003 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York before opening up the stage for his new licks. As today his new album appears, Mayer will be performing at the historic Beacon Theater in New York - broadcasting live on FUSE at 9pm - saying “it’s great to be back onstage with a guitar.” He played a mirage of classics and covers, from Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” to one of his first hits, “Comfortabl” and “Waiting on the World to Change,” the latter performed totally acoustic. Two backup singers took over for Taylor Swifts part during the new “Half of my Heart” track and finished with “Friends, Lovers or Nothing.” “You can write whatever the fuck you want in your glossy magazine but I ain’t ever heard a solo in it!” he said, addressing tabloid rumors. “They say I’m a womanizer! I say I haven’t met enough women!”

John’s Album Isn’t About his Personal Life

According to the Associated Press and John Mayer, don’t come to conclusions when it comes to his new tracks for Battle Studies. The crooner wrote the singles months and months ago, and for the most part have nothing to do with the public life that is plastered on every tabloid magazine. Like the first single, “Heartbreak Warfare.” The tune got people thinking about his former girlfriend Jennifer Aniston. Ask him that, though, and he’ll roll his eyes. “I know some people think that, but it doesn’t [have to do with her],” he says during a rehearsal. “That would mean that my personal life is more powerful than the music itself, and it’s just not. No one’s personal life is more powerful than music itself, and it’s just not. By the way, I’m not the first person to process a personal life into putting out a record. I think if there’s any intrigue - obviously it would be silly of me to ask somebody not to be intrigued - but I think when the music starts playing, you’re not thinking about my life, you’re thinking about yours.”

Pre-Sale Code Ticket Trouble

Already John Mayer is having some trouble with his tour - and he isn’t even on the road yet. The soft rock crooner announced on his website early last week that he would be giving fans a special pre-sale code to get John Mayer tickets to his show as well as early purchasing of the new album Battle Studies. However, it seems like that is where he ran into some trouble - the artist gave out pre-sale codes to anyone who bought an early edition of the new album, but apparently most folks who tried to take advantage of the special tickets going on sale early weren’t getting their promotional code. Updating fans on his website, the news wrote: “we are sending a second email to all purchasers[of the album] with your ticketing code. Comcast users and some roadrunner subscribers may not have received our original email notification, however we have adapted to the issue on our end and are sending a second email,” reported the site. However, the next day fans trying to purchase tickets for the Philadelphia show were still having problems. The Wachovia Center released a statement regarding the problem: “Due to a technical issues involving New Era Tickets in the Philadelphia market, some members of the John Mayer Fan Club may have had difficulties accessing the pre-sale between 10am and 12pm this morning. These technical issues have now been resolved, and tickets are available to be purchased using the password provided. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

John Mayer Now Outspoken About Vets/ Troops Thanks to “Battle Studies”

You can now stream Battle Studies oh Rhapsody at rhapsody.com/mayer. Mayer, in response to his new album one can only guess, decided to prophesize about American troops on his Twitter account recently:
..but with employment. And acceptance. And we should never speak to them about politics. “Thank you for your service” is all it takes.

While he’s in promotion for the new set, Mayer has left media outlets little when doing interviews - there is little that they can actually ask, particularly omitted are “personal questions.” Still, Mayer says to the Sydney Morning Herald: “I’m confident that the music itself, once it wraps around you, you’re thinking about you, not me. That’s the role of a songwriter and truth sayer and singer: I narrate your life, not mine.”

Mayer on a Detour

Currently in Australia promoting his new set, John Mayer was extremely vocal about the disarray that Britney Spears caused while lip- syncing down under. “If you’re shock that Britney was lip- syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you.” Mayer’s two million fans on Twitter often get an earful, including the incident that left him stranded in Melbourne while he was en route to Los Angeles. “Sydney to Los Angeles. I mean, turn around, back to Sydney. I mean, over to Melbourne…Thanks Airbus A380!” The soft rock crooner was clearly not too happy that when he left Sydney from Los Angeles it would instead go right back to where he started - sort of - thanks to a faulty fuel pipe, reports news.com.au. The passengers were put up in a hotel in Melbourne, which caused more complaining: “This hotel smells like the carbon paper in a coroner’s report. (I’m tired, go with it”).

John and Taylor Duet - Where is that Country Girl?

Though John Mayer’s Battle Studies isn’t supposed to appear until November 17th, a new single has been leaked - and it is the duet with Taylor Swift. “Half of my Heart” is, as Rolling Stone calls it, “a Fleetwood Mac-inspired pop” where John sings “half of my heart is a shotgun wedding to a bride with a paper ring, but half of my heart is the part of a man who hasn’t truly loved anything.” The single is part of the “brighter side” of the LP, as Mayer revealed to RS that “the record stars out sort of like the sun is out, then it gets darker. And then the sun comes back out at the end.” The single doesn’t have great, positive lyrics but the tune is much more upbeat. Swift isn’t part of the single, chiming in during the middle of the track single “I can’t stop loving you” before fading out as quickly as she came.

With a 2010 tour already scheduled it is no surprise that a few more Mayer singles will be released before he begins his jaunt. Be on top of things with John Mayer tickets via StubHub.
