En Concert is getting closer to its release date of October 27 (the film follows Johnson during his 2008 “Sleep Through the Static” tour in Europe). During the trek, Johnson and the crew used biodiesel buses, coaches and generators and were greatly committed to both recycling and composting. The tour also offset about 4,000 metric tons of carbon through donations to renewable energy sources as well as programs that can help save jungles and forests. All of the proceeds from En Concert sales will fund the Kokua Hawaii Foundation and the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, an organization that supports environmental, art and music education around the planet.

Jack Johnson to Perform a Few Songs Tonight
Singer/songwriter Jack Johnson is performing few songs at the Stop Furlough Fridays rally today at the state Capitol. Johnson was quoted on the Honolulu Advisor as saying, “My wife and I planned on going anyway in support of stopping the furloughs. They wanted me to speak, but I’m not really comfortable public speaking so I offered to sing a few songs instead.” Johnson went onto reflect on his own children, saying, “I don’t want to see our public school system downgraded and I think it’s important to support education. Furloughs are a complex situation, but all I’m asking is that they take another look at other options. Furlough Fridays seem like a short-term solution when you’re looking at the future.

Murmers of a New Jack Johnson Album…
Jack Johnson is busy getting ready to release his En Concert film and live album, due out on Oct. 27, but he also has his eyes set on a possible fifth studio album arriving soon. Johnson told Billboard.com, “I think we’re starting to get together a new album right now. Whenever it seems like there’s an album’s worth of stuff around, I kinda just record it. I’ve been recording a lot of stuff on my own…and then all of a sudden the other night I was going through it all, and it seems like there’s an album there again. I feel like there’s a 60/40 chance we’re going to put out an album by next summer and probably tour a little bit again.” Fingers crossed that in fact a new Jack Johnson album is just over the horizon!
