Eminem Talks About Delay of ‘Relapse 2’ and Release of ‘Refill’

As reported last week, Eminem will re-release his fifth studio album, Relapse, as Relapse: Refill via Aftermath/Interscope on Dec. 21 rather than releasing Relapse 2 before the end of 2009. Relapse: Refill will feature seven bonus tracks, according to Billboard.com. Eminem’s label released a statement revealing that the bonus tracks will feature five “never-before-tracks” like “Forever,” which includes Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Drake (it was featured on the soundtrack for More Than A Game), as well as “Taking My Ball” from DJ Hero.

Eminem released a statement about the change in plans saying, “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year. I got back in [the studio] with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want to other stuff to be heard.”

Eminem’s ‘Relapse 2’ Gets a Name-Change and Release Date

Eminem’s highly anticipated follow-up to his comeback album Relapse, initially titled Relapse 2, is slated to arrive on December 22 … sort of. According to nahright.com, the album will feature the entirety of Relapse augmented by seven new tracks and will be titled The Relapse Refill. Even though it isn’t a full-fledged album like expected, fans of the Detroit rapper will likely be rushing to pick up the deluxe album in time for the holidays.

SOHH.com reports that D12 member Mr. Porter spoke to All Hip Hop about Eminem’s upcoming album saying, “This will be the first time I’m producing songs for Em under me without D12. That’s big for me. I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet, but one of the songs is told as if we were back in the day … The reason he’s good is not because being white worked to his advantage. It did a little at first, but all day everyday the kid is writing. I don’t know if Jay-Z is writing all day. He owns multi-million dollar businesses. Em writes all day. Jay probably comes up with lines [and] that makes him one of the greatest. I’m fighting, because Just Blaze came in and kicked a**.” (Producer Just Blaze is reported to have been working on Eminem’s upcoming album.)

Wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr. Listens to Eminem Before Matches

According to MTV News, wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr. uses Eminem’s music to fuel his anger before entering the ring. Known as “The Million Dollar Man,” Ted DiBiase first gained fame in the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s due to his knack for playing the villain, and now his son is part of the WWE’s batch of bad boys. When asked what he and his fellow wrestlers listen to in the WWE locker room, the younger DiBiase answered, “It depends on if Big Show has his iPod dock or Chris Jericho [has his dock]. If it’s Chris Jericho, then it’ll be Ozzy [Osbourne]. It’s all rock and roll. Then Big Show, he’s got some old country, Hank Williams Jr. it varies.”

As for himself, DiBiase Jr. said, “I’m a fan of all music. I’m not just saying that. I like pop music that comes out. I live in Mississippi, so I do like the country music. I’m a big fan of the Kings of Leon. I really dig their music. I work out to Eminem and stuff. He gets me going in the gym. He’s got some good lyrics, and he gets me a little pissed off. That’s what I need to push some weights sometime.”

50 Cent Looks Up to Eminem

In a recent interview with MTV News, 50 Cent says that he strives to achieve the same level of success as rapper Eminem. In speaking of the trio made up of himself, Dr Dre and Eminem, 50 said they work well together because of their “chain of command.” Said Fif to MTV News, “I listen to Em, Em absolutely listens to Dre, and that keeps us together. The opportunity that Dre offered Em is what Em did for me. There’s no confusion with where we stand or how we function. They’re both not easy to just do things. I’m the easiest one to work with because … I’m more active. It’s just their achievements and where they’re at in their career. I’m the baby, I’m the smallest one. How ‘bout that? Isn’t that scary?”

Specifically speaking about how Eminem’s success drives him, 50 Cent told MTV News, “Because when they go away, I’m the biggest one in hip-hop, and I’m the smallest one in my circle, in my camp. This is what keeps me down to Earth and working, because I feel like there’s room for growth. You got artists around you that do 23 million records on [The] Marshall Mathers LP before you come out. Yeah, I had the largest debuting hip-hop album but it ain’t the largest album. And [for Eminem] to generate twice the interest? Says that there’s something to work to.”

The Fued Between Mariah and Eminem Rages On

Just when you thought it was over, the very public feud between Mariah Carey and Eminem continues. As reported by theboombox.com, Mariah dissed the Detroit rapper on The Late Show with David Letterman on Friday (Nov. 13). Said the singer to Letterman, “He continuously references me. I don’t know why, so I wrote a song that’s really an anthem for all, like, little girls or kids that get their ponytails pulled and get abused, because the boy is really in love with them and they can’t be with them.” Although Mariah wouldn’t outright admit that her song “Obsessed” is about Eminem, whom she reportedly dated back in ‘01, she did tell Dave, “The song is not about anybody and yet it could be about anybody. You know? You never know.” Whatever that means.

Eminem released a song called “The Warning” in which he gave Mariah’s husband Nick Cannon a verbal beating (also claiming to have nude photos of Carey!). Eminem’s Relapse 2 album is on its way and may possibly include another song bashing Mariah, but no one knows for sure.

Freeway Pays Tribute to Eminem

As reported by SOHH.com, State Property’s Freeway has unveiled plans to release a new mixtape called Freelapse. The mixtape will be a tribute to Eminem’s platinum-certified comeback album Relapse, and according to Freeway the idea for the tribute effort came about after a freestyle flow from Slim Shady himself. All Hip Hop quotes Freeway as saying, “I’m dropping the Freelapse, it’s a tribute to Eminem using all of his beats. What happened was Em did a freestyle and he was like ‘I disappeared I was hiding in Freeways beard,’ so I sampled that, made it a hook, and used it for a song. After that, I came up with the idea.”

Freeway continued to say, “Eminem is a talented emcee, he’s got a lot of hot beats, and another artist would probably be scared to rap to his beats because he’s murdered every beat. So I felt that it was a challenge for me to try to live up to that expectation.” Eminem has yet to comment on the flattering mixtape.

Redman Talks Eminem and Shady Records

Def Jam artist Redman recently spoke with Hip Hop DX (via SOHH.com) about his relationship with Eminem, discussing the possibility of the pair of MCs reuniting to collaborate on a track together. Redman also addressed a rumor reporting that Slim Shady wanted to sign him, explaining that he was initially willing to leave Def Jam for Eminem’s label. Said Redman, “I will f*** with Shady Records, because they’re new, I love Eminem as an artist—me and Eminem connected a long time ago, and he doing his thing. And for him to even make a statement, or even have Redman on his mind, like ‘Yo, he ain’t f***in’ with Def Jam, bring him on over,’ I appreciate it.”

Although Redman is happy at Def Jam, he continued to say that he is still in touch with Eminem. “I guess when the time is right. Eminem know I’m around, I ain’t hard to find. Me and his peoples are always on touch. [Paul] Rosenberg and my manager … if I need Em, or really need to get in touch with him, I could do it. Whenever he reach out, ‘Yeah. Let’s do a song.’ So it’s nothin’. Paul, what’s good, baby?”
