Kenny Chesney Reflects on First Gig With Dave Matthews

Country star Kenny Chesney was recently joined onstage by pal Dave Matthews at the CMA Awards for a duet of “I’m Alive.”  But he’s known the jam band rockstar for some time now.  He recently appeared on Jeff Foxworthy’s radio show and reflected, “The first time I met Dave was at Farm Aid in 2005 in Chicago.  We kept in touch…and it just kind of went from there.  In 2007, I was playing in Atlanta at the Amphitheater there.  He was playing in Atlanta, but he had the night off, and he came out and we jammed on stage for a little bit, played a couple of his songs, a couple of Bob Marley songs…it was a lot of fun.”

Apparently their fans are also having “a lot of fun” with the collaborate sounds from both musicians…“I’m Alive” is currently a Top 10 hit on the charts and the track is also featured on Chesney’s Greatest Hits II album.

Matthews Lends His Vocal Skills to Danny Barnes’ New Album

Banjo pioneer Danny Barnes has a fairly famous friend in Dave Matthews (yes, of the Dave Matthews Band).  Barnes recently released his new album called Pizza Box through ATO Records, which Matthews helped him get signed to.  On this new set of tracks, Barnes tells tales of American life, with pen and banjo.  His storytelling skills, accentuated with a southern twang are practically unmatched.

Matthews contributed to three of the songs on the album and had praise for his musically inclined friend, saying, “From the first time he sat down and played me ‘Road,’ I knew his next record was going to be great, but I didn’t expect his.  The music is mart and soulful, and the lyrics are profound.  It is heaven and earth.  It’s Americana, from the back porch to the pulpit, shattered dreams on angels’ wings.  I can’t stop listening.  In the haze of over-produced, ‘perfect’ recordings, Danny Barnes spent less that two weeks banging out an album that may well save your soul.”  If that is not the best sales pitch ever, I don’t know what is.

“You and Me” - DMB

You and Me” is one of the Dave Matthews Band’s latest tunes.  It appeared on their album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.  It gets a similar amount of radio play to other tracks off of the record like: “Shake Me Like a Monkey,” “Funny the Way It Is” and “Why I Am.”  If you listen closely, the lyrics are simple, but very endearing.  The ballad starts off: “Wanna pack your bags, Something small/Take what you need and we disappear/Without a trace we’ll be gone, gone/The moon and the stars can follow the car, and then when we get to the ocean/We gonna take a boat to the end of the world/All the way to the end of the world.”  The chorus continues: “You and me together, we could do anything, Baby/You and me together yes, yes…”

This song is sure to be a hit at many of his live shows.  Go to StubHub and get your own pair of Dave Matthews Band tickets today.

Starbucks is gearing up for the holidays and not just by featuring their wildly popular Christmas blend. The coffee giant teamed up with RED (a movement to help eradicate AIDS in Africa) to release an album called All You Need Is Love. Starting today, customers who spend at least $15 at participating Starbucks throughout the United States, will receive a free copy of the CD while supplies last. The album features recordings by RED advocates U2, the Dave Matthews Band, John Legend and Playing for Change. DMB Manages to Be Larger Than Life

Seriously, what can be better than the Dave Matthews Band in 3D?  Fans are looking forward to December 11-17, when a number of digital cinema screens across the U.S. will feature Larger Than Life…in 3D.  The film presents performances from the Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper and Relentless 7 and Gogol Bordello from performances earlier this year.  Mostly the film captures highlights from a number of music festivals that took place throughout 2009, including Austin City Limits, Mile High and All Points West.  For more information on this 3D experience, be sure to check out the Cinedigm website, which lists specific theaters where the movie will be played.

Of course there is nothing better than enjoying a live concert…especially when the featured performer is the Dave Matthews Band!  Check out StubHub and get your own pair of Dave Matthews Band tickets as soon as possible.

Can’t See DMB Live…What About Onscreen in 3D?

Yesterday I noted that the Dave Matthews band would be featured (along with Ben Harper and Gogol Bordello) in an upcoming 3D concert film.  This seems to be the new direction of music performances.  Can’t see them live?  On screen will have to do…oh AND it’s 3D?  Rad.  We’ve experienced this with the Rolling Stones and U2 and sometimes are left to wonder: is this better than actually seeing the band live anyway?  I mean the angles are so good, it’s up-close, I don’t need binoculars and forget about those pesky security guards.  The movie will feature DMB at the Austin City Limits Festival, Ben Harper at the Mile High Music Festival and Gogol Bordello from the Pine Music Festival.

On screen…or onstage?  Come on…live is always better!  Get your pair of Dave Matthews Band tickets today from StubHub.

Tim Reynolds and Jeff Coffin on Tour

Guitarist Tim Reynolds has often joined the Dave Matthews Band onstage, but these days the acclaimed musician is on the road with his own band, TR3.  The group released their latest album of brand new material in over 10 years this past January and are bringing the new tunes to venues around the country.  Called Radiance, the album is fill of hard-driving and straight-forward rock and roll numbers.

Saxophonist Jeff Coffin (also a contributor to DMB) played a series of dates last month and is also scheduled to appear onstage tomorrow night as well as Nov. 14.  Coffin will also be performing several dates soon with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.  The current lineup of Mu’tet includes Kofi Burbridge, Jeff Sipe and Felix Pastorius.

Reviewing DMB’s Latest Work

Columnist Derek Horn offers some great insight into the latest from jam-rockers the Dave Matthews Band.  He, like many other fans, has found something to appreciate in DMB’s latest release, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.  The record was released in June, and overall, it pays tribute to late saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who died in 2008.  One of the tracks, in particular, pays tribute to their fallen bandmate.  “Why I Am,” is a catchy, upbeat track, that like most other DMB songs, makes you want to get up and dance.  Other tracks included on the album include “Shake Me Like a Monkey,” “Seven” and “Time Bomb.”  Horn concludes that Big Whiskey is one of the best albums brought to us by DMB.  I would have to agree.

DMB to Return to SNL

Okay, fans, mark your calendars: the Dave Matthews Band is set to return to the Saturday Night Live stage as the musical guest on November 21.  The show will be hosted by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  This appearance will mark the fourth time that the band has appeared on the show since their first stint in 2003.

The Dave Matthews Band has been busy touring in support of their most recent release, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.  They made appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and also appeared on the Today show’s concert series this year.  Check out a video for the one of the tracks from the album, “Why I Am.”

The best way to enjoy the music of the Dave Matthews Band is to catch them live onstage.  Tell your friends and family to go to StubHub and get Dave Matthews Band tickets for an upcoming show!
