Mackie Interview, Pt. 2
Yesterday, we explored Bob Mackie’s memories about working with Cher earlier in his career, but that isn’t the entire story. Cher has also trusted the sparkle-loving designer to work on her most recent stage-ready wardrobe as well. He knows Cher as well as just about anyone and he described to the Las Vegas Sun how her style has changed, revealing, “For somebody who has worn everything in the world by this time, she has things she’d like to have and not have. When I first met her she was happy with anything I did but nowadays she’s a little more selective since she’s worn it all. We have to push a little harder and make it more interesting, also more interesting for the fans.”
Cher still likes to change up her stage style, and when she needs new outfits, it is Mackie to the rescue. He said, “She was bored with the old costumes in her show (at Caesars Palace) and wanted some new ones. They added a whole big new production number to the show and I did them all, probably 24 or 25 costumes, something like that.”

Mackie Interview, Pt. 1
Bob Mackie is a legendary designer, and is surely hasn’t hurt his reputation working with Cher. Cher has relied on Mackie’s over-the-top creations since nearly the very beginning of her career. Mackie still creates costumes for her popular Las Vegas show, and he recently gave an interview to the Las Vegas Sun.
In part of the interview, Mackie revealed his early days with Cher, like meeting her in 1967. He said, “Cher and I got on very well. I ended up working on different television specials with her and when her own show came on the air (“The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour”) in the early ’70s, they asked me to do her clothes. It was a delight to do. She has a beautiful body and she was so young and so much fun.”
One of the most famous creations by Mackie for Cher was her skin-bearing headdress outfit for the 1986 Academy Awards. Mackie recalled, “It was her thumbing her nose at the Academy for not nominating her that year. Actually, it isn’t accurate to say ‘thumbing her nose.’ She had been doing a lot of dramatic things and she just wanted people to know that she was back. She hates to dress up like a housewife in an evening gown. She wants to be herself, and that was herself.”
Tomorrow, we will reveal Mackie’s contribution to Cher’s current wardrobe. See her live with Cher tickets from StubHub.
Dane To Be Part of Burlesque
The cast looked nearly complete for Cher’s well-publicized return to film, Burlesque, but the star power continues to add up as actor Eric Dane has also been confirmed as part of the cast. Broadway World is reporting that he will be playing Christina Aguilera’s love interest, but Cam Gigandet has already said that he is the one playing Aguilera’s love interest. Either one is mistaken, or the plot could have more than a few little twists. Also confirmed in the cast are Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Julianne Hough and Alan Cumming. Cher has been focusing on her touring career lately rather than film, so fans are likely to show up in droves to catch her return to the big screen.
Dane has been growing in popularity lately, helped by his role on the hit series Grey’s Anatomy. He has also had roles in films like X-Men: The Last Stand, Wedding Wars and Marley & Me. He is also set to appear in the star-studded upcoming film Valentine’s Day, which also includes stars like Ashton Kutcher, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and many more.
Cher is still on stage right now, so get your Cher tickets from StubHub.

Chaz Recognized by Out
Out Magazine recently put out their list of “2009 Out 100: our collection of the 100 gay men, women, and trans people who have made 2009 a year to remember.” Of course, Cher’s son Chaz Bono is on that list. He stands in a category all his own, because he is a rare example of a celebrity bringing light to the plight of transgendered men and women. In the Out list, Chaz was named “Most Likely to Reinvent.”
In the magazine, the reason for the title was given as, “The only child of Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz has a long history in queer activism. After coming out in the April 1995 issue of The Advocate, he went on to write for the magazine, serve as a high-profile spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, became entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and penned two books centered on LGBT issues. After several years under the radar, Bono broke news in June that he had begun FTM gender reassignment surgery.”
Chaz’s transition is sure to bring much spotlight to the cause, and Cher has already expressed her support. See her live by getting Cher tickets from StubHub.
Griffin Compares Show to Cher
Comedian Kathy Griffin is known as a die-hard Cher fan and even has had the privilege of meeting Cher. In fact, it hardly seems that Griffin could go through an entire standup routine without mentioning Cher. She loves the diva so much that when she was asked about the newest season of her hit show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, she said, “Let’s just say we are hoping the premiere episode will be Cher-tastic.”
She hasn’t yet started shooting the show, and will begin in January. Now that Griffin is becoming one of the most well-known female comedians out there, she can hardly claim D-list status anymore. Especially when she is invited to party with the likes of Cher.
It is no wonder that Griffin picked Cher as a hero. Cher is one of the most powerful women in all of entertainment, conquering everything from music to television to film. Griffin and Cher also share a fans as both are known for their gay fan bases. Cher is still performing in Vegas and even added dates in 2010 to satisfy her many fans. Don’t wait to reserve your spot and get Cher tickets from StubHub.
Chaz Speaks at TLC Event
Now that his gender transition is underway, Chaz Bono has been stepping out more in public. One event he made sure to attend was the Transgender Law Center’s seven anniversary benefit last week in San Francisco. The reason for his appearance had to do with a member of TLC, Executive Director Masen Davis. Chaz revealed that Davis, “was the first trans guy I’ve ever talked to about my struggle to start transitioning.”
Bono also revealed that he is thankful for the state he lives in and said, “[It’s] still really hard to be trans in this country ... California has the best transgender laws in the country.”
Chaz, then as Chastity, came out as a lesbian years ago before announcing his transition to a man earlier this year. Cher originally had a hard time coming to grips with her then-daughter’s sexuality, but later became an advocate for GLBT issues. She has released a statement in support of Chaz’s choice to undergo the reassignment. Cher has recently announced more dates for her Las Vegas residency, and fans will want to act quickly to see her live. You can get your pair of Cher tickets from StubHub.
Cher Announces New Vegas Dates
Many assumed that Cher would be wrapping up her residency in Las Vegas at the end of the year to start filming her return to film, Burlesque, but she has recently announced a new series of dates that keeps her at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace into the spring of 2010. She will play 24 performances starting April 10 and ending May 30, according to UPI. Fans who attend a show after November 19 will also get to see new Bob Mackie costumes on display at the show.
The director and choreographer for the show, Doriana Sanchez, said of the new dates, “We are so excited to return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and have made wonderful, new changes to the show, including a number choreographed by my dear friend Tyce Diorio from ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ It pays homage to the great movie musicals, complete with incredible costumes by Bob Mackie. Cumming Joins Cher in Burlesque
Cher is finishing up her dates in Las Vegas before she starts filming her much-anticipated return to film, Burlesque. Other cast members who have already been announced are Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci and Julianne Hough. Recently, another cast member was announced as Alan Cumming. Cumming will play the club’s master of ceremonies, a role that is sure to require an over-the-top acting job for Cummings as his character is reportedly going to be colorful.
Cumming is a Scottish actor who has quite the resume. He has appeared in films like GoldenEye, Emma, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Eyes Wide Shut, Spy Kids, X2, Garfield and Son of the Mask. His television credits include The High Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Sex and the City and The L Word. Mackie Reveals Details About about Cher
Bob Mackie rose to fame as a celebrated designer who could make some pretty outlandish designs. One of the reasons his name kept coming up, though, was because he was a favorite designer of Cher. Apparently, the feeling is mutual as Bob Mackie recently sat down with Access Hollywood and dished on what it was like working with Cher. Below is a collection of his comments on Cher:
“Nobody else is quite like her. You can’t put her in a category with anyone else, really.”
“She likes to dress up and she gets bored and she decided she wanted something new.”
“I look back at what she’s worn in the past and hopefully bring some of that back, but I still give it a new look too.”
About her show: “The queen is at the head of it all saying what she likes and doesn’t like.”
“This year she loves day-glo green and hot pink, which she would have never worn before. And even though she wore orange in the ‘70s, she hates it and would not wear it now.”
“Forty years ago, Cher could walk out naked and look good. She’s a little more careful these days, but shows enough that everyone still gets excited.”
It seems like Mackie knows Cher very well. It is no wonder she still trusts him to provide outfits for her shows. See his designs in person by getting Cher tickets from StubHub.
