Carrie Underwood Has Had Huge Success for Randy Travis Thanks to Duet of his 1988 “I Told You So”

Randy Travis, legendary country act, recently sat down with News OK, talking about his future and the work he’s done to shape his current career, namely that little single that he re-recorded with Checotah native Carrie Underwood. Underwood covered Travis’ “I Told You So” on her 2007 album Carnival Ride, and then re-released the version in Feburary 2009. Later that spring she had Travis join her on the track, which was performed on a episode of “American Idol” and made the charts (much like every one single Carrie has her hand on); it was the first track for Travis to see chart success since his 2003 “Three Wooden Crosses.” “Radio’s just not that open to playing me that much anymore because there seems to be an age limit these days. Carrie gave me a boost and did me a favor … and she sang the fire out of that song. She’s one of the finest singers to come into this business in many years.” he said. “Carrie has attracted a group of listeners who weren’t necessarily country fans until she came into this business.” Now Travis’ name - and Carrie’s - has remained in the news for their recent win at the Grammys for Best Country Collaboration and their nod for Academy of Country Music Award.

Carrie Underwood Talks to Allure Magazine About her Style Mishaps - from 2001 to 2004

Allure Magazine recently interviewed Carrie Underwood on her rise to fame and her current Play On Tour for the April issue. The star recently went through a “style timeline” with the magazine’s writers - from her high school graduation picture to her current mishaps. The 2001 senior picture from Checotah High she says, “I mean, she’s a different person, you know? She’s—yeah. It was raining and I was mad: My hair was a lot more curly than that, and it fell out.” Flash forward to 2004’s American Idol season, when the country girl was poised to make Simon Cowell drool when she buckled down her singing in cowboy boots and big belt buckles. “Yeah. I’m sure they picked the clothes. [Rolls eyes.] My hair’s in between. It isn’t straight enough to just blow it dry and leave it; it isn’t curly enough to just let it dry naturally and leave it. It’s caught in the middle. But it holds a curl really well and it stays curly; I can straighten it and it really doesn’t fuzz up in the humidity. Earlier this year, I didn’t highlight it for three months. It was bad. I’m blond, but it’s more mousy.”
