In a political ad for John McCain’s campaign the voice of Jackson Browne can be heard sining his famous tune “Running on Empty” in was an attempt at mockery at McCain’s Democratic opponent, Barack Obama. Obama had suggested that to help save a little money on gas prices, drivers should regularly check their tires. Browne was apparently not pleased with the inclusion of his famous song in McCain’s campaign ad because Browne has long been a liberal and is a strong supporter of the Democratic Party.
Other musicians have also requested that their music be withdrawn from John McCain’s campaign, those include ABBA and John Mellencamp. Browne’s attorney has said that the ad’s use of the song is “reprehensible.” The lawsuit claims that the Republican campaign used the song without requesting permission from the singer. Don’t miss out on one of his next shows and get your pair of Jackson Browne tickets to see him perform because you certainly won’t be hearing his music on anymore Republican campaign ads.

Some artists like to go out with a bang. We recently saw Sting and the Police turn to metaphor as a way of saying goodbye. Gregg Gillis, the headband-wearing party maker known to the kids as Girl Talk, has an even better plan. His final date is Dec. 21, 2012–the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar, he says.
He would be going out on a high note, naturally, claiming he would do a 24-hour set. But not, like, a great 24-hour set–a fantastic one, one that makes the audience suffer for 20 hours and then go crazy for four. His criteria for “fantastic” is a little confusing. Let’s cut the man a break, though, since he’s put out an incredible record lately and is brave enough to allow his fans to pay what they think it’s worth.
Better than hearing album is getting concert tickets and hearing him live. Get some Girl Talk tickets at Stubhub.com.
Stereogum makes it sound like if you had to be at only one Radiohead concert in your life, the All Points West Festival would have been the one. To be fair, it sounded like an awesome music festival; before it’s creation, the concept floated for it was the “Coachella of the East.”
But to the writer in question, it was just one long wait for a Radiohead concert. Shake your fist all you want at those who managed to nab concert tickets, but at least Stereogum had the decency to bring back photos. And what a collection! There are some great shots of Thom and company, with everything bathed in a hazy, neon glow, like they’re playing in some iridescent cavern. It’s very eerie and trippy–exactly the mood you want for a Radiohead show.
Check them out, then when you’ve had your fill, pop over to Stubhub.com and get yourself some Radiohead tickets.
150 was the magic number for Police fans in New York, who played their final (and 150th) show at Madison Square Gardens Aug. 7. In a rather grand gesture, the band did away with subtlety and invited a fat lady (dressed as if she’d wandered in while looking for the opera house) to sing on stage after their final song.
It was certainly a memorable show. It also seems increasingly rare for bands to firmly call it quits, even when there’s a bit of bad blood between the members. But the Police managed to pull of an amazing performance according to Rolling Stone, and more power to them for it. As the writer for RS recalled, however, this “final” tour has its precedent in 1984, when the band was at its peak and broke up, with Sting swearing up and down that they would never reform. Ah, never hold rock stars to their word.
Well, if they ever decided to have a final final show, you know you can get concert tickets at Stubhub.com.
All Nine Inch Nails fans are now on alert after learning that Trent Reznor had to postpone a show last week due to an unspecified throat ailment. Now, it looks like the ailment has progressed so much that he’s canceled yet another date.
Any fan of NIN knows Reznor takes his shows seriously, and Reznor himself admits it’s painful to have to do that. Pitchfork quoted a statement attributed to him: “Just want to personally say how sorry I am to have to do this. I never take postponing a show lightly and if there were any possible way I could pull this off I would. This is a very frustrating and maddening situation for me and I appreciate your understanding. I’ll make it up to you.”Just want to personally say how sorry I am to have to do this. I never take postponing a show lightly and if there were any possible way I could pull this off I would. This is a very frustrating and maddening situation for me and I appreciate your understanding. I’ll make it up to you.”
Despite the two dates, all the rest are expected to be a go. Concert tickets are still available for the tour. Get Nine Inch Nails tickets at Stubhub.com.
Though he’s best known for being the shaky-voiced frontman for the ’80s New Wave pioneers Devo, Mark Mothersbaugh has full entrenched himself in the film world, working on soundtracks for some rather awesome movies in the past decade or so (Wes Anderson’s flicks in particular). So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that he would have produced the soundtrack to Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, an upcoming movie about the young and awkward with good taste in music.
Being hailed as the hottest thing since fire all over the music press, indie-rockers Vampire Weekend were a natural to appear on it. But what no one could expect is that Mothersbaugh would team up with them and perform on their entry. Besides the odd track composed for soundtracks and performing Devo’s work live, you don’t really hear much from Mothersbaugh these days. Fans old and new should be thrilled to hear what the composition with Vampire Weekend sounds like.
Your guess is as good as anyone else’s right now. But you can hear Vampire Weekend–live, at least. Concert tickets are available for their current tour. Get Vampire Weekend tickets at Stubhub.com.
