That Ben Folds album you downloaded isn’t real

August 20, 2008

Enjoying “Bitch Went Nutz,” one of Ben Folds’ new songs? He certainly does–it’s one of his favorite tracks off those that were recently leaked on the Internet. The only trouble is, it isn’t real.

Your ahead of the times, Ben. Mr. Folds apparently decided to be preemptive and, before recording his new album, set out to record nine tracks in eight hours. It gave him and his band a lot of freedom to just screw around in the studio and have some fun. In the end, Folds’ friends released them on the net, where music-hungry fans quickly started trading them and raving on their favorite chat forums.

Apparently, though, it proved more difficult than he expected. When uploading it to certain Web servers, administrators would delete it for fear of being sued. Rolling Stone has a longer interview with Ben Folds.

Hoping to hear the real songs live? Or maybe even the fake ones? Concert tickets (real ones) are available now. Just look up Ben Folds tickets at Stubhub.com.

Oasis reveals new video!

August 20, 2008

Stereogum has a post about Oasis’ new music video for “The Shock of the Lightening.” The site makes a relevant point: Oasis has stayed in the media’s spotlight largely because Noel Gallagher can’t help but say thing’s he should really think twice about before saying. It’s made him quite a few enemies over the years, including this past summer when he balked at Jay-Z appearing at the Glastonbury Music Festival because, you know, England isn’t ready for hip-hop.

When you make news for releasing new music, or an awesome video like this one, it’s makes for much more positive press. Regardless of how we keep tabs on what Gallagher is thinking, it’s great to hear new music from this influential Brit-pop band.

After following the link and watching the video, consider getting concert tickets for the band’s upcoming tour. They might be coming to a venue near you. Check out the Oasis tickets on Stubhub.com and find out.

NY gets bike racks courtesy of David Byrne

August 20, 2008

It’s hard to ignore David Byrne these days. His new album is his first collaboration with musical genius Brian Eno in 30 years, and is now available for streaming online. He’s currently on tour supporting that album, with concert tickets selling fast. And stories have appeared throughout the year about his architectural art installations, which transform entire buildings into instruments.

Now, the New York Times spills a little more ink for the former Talking Heads frontman. Byrne, a long-time fan of biking around town, has designed some clever bike racks, each with a different theme corresponding to the area it’s in. The Wall Street bike rack, for example, is a large dollar sign; around the fashionable Lady’s Mile shopping district, you’ll find one shaped like a high-heeled shoe.

They’re pretty colorful, naturally coming from a colorful guy. His music is just as colorful, and you can hear it by getting David Byrne tickets at Stubhub.com.

Simpson Signs on to Stampede Brewing Company

August 20, 2008

Jessica Simpson has perhaps realized her true calling.  She has ventured from performing pop music to donning a cowboy hat and singing country and now this Daisy Duke wants to offer you a icy cold one. That’s right, Jessica Simpson is the newest spokesperson for Dallas’ Stampede Brewing Company.  You didn’t peg the blonde-haired beauty to be an avid beer guzzler?  Apparently Stampede Light is marketed towards those with an active lifestyle.  What does that mean, people who actively drink beer?  I mean it’s not like you will go for a marathon run and say, you know, instead of water, I’ll just rehydrate with a nice Stampede Light Plus….or maybe you will.  I am reminded of San Francisco’s Beta Breakers.

Simpson said in a statement, that was aptly captured by the Associated Press that, “I’m always looking for ways to diversify my portfolio with good ideas and good people.”  And let’s be honest, all things considered, beer is one of the best conceptions out there.  Cheer on Tony Romo with your pint of Stampede Light Plus and maybe Jessica Simpson will be there too.  Or see her live in concert with your pair of Jessica Simpson tickets.

RBD to Split Up

August 19, 2008

The famous Mexican pop group has recently announced that they will in fact split up after four years performing together, but they have yet to set a final concert date.  The announcement that was posted on their personal website says, that “every great project needs to transform itself in order to excel and today we are starting that process.”  RBD is currently on tour, appearing in places like Madrid, Spain; Santiago, Spain; Belgrade, Serbia and Bucharest, Romania.  It would be essential to catch this dynamic group before they call it quits for good.

The group is Grammy nominated and originally gained popularity from Televisa’s teenage-oriented telenovela called Rebelde.  They have released several albums since their formation in 2004, with some well-known titles being: Nuestro Amor and Celestial and Rebels.  Keep your eyes and ears open for any upcoming news about final performance dates and get your own pair of RBD tickets.

NIN extending tour dates

August 19, 2008

If you haven’t had the chance to see Trent Reznor and company on stage yet this year, not to fear. Reznor, ever the workaholic, is stretching the band’s tour dates out to December. Maybe it’s out of guilt for missing a couple of dates a while back due to a strain on his throat. Whatever the case, it’s a good time to have Nine Inch Nails tickets.
Currently, the band is touring the east coast, but soon enough they’ll be headed across the middle of the country and California before embarking on a quick jaunt across South America and Mexico. Then the tour path will drive through the south, the east coast again, up into Canada, and back across the country. The man really is restless, and we’re all the richer for it. His newest album has been receiving rave reviews, and if you’ve never seen him perform live, you’re missing out.

Byrne, Eno album now available online

August 19, 2008

The long-awaited collaborative effort between David Byrne and Brian Eno–their first in three decades, as their Web site notes–can now be heard for free by streaming the record online. Fans of either artist will be pleased to know it sounds great, with Byrne’s vocals sounding strong as ever, and plenty of odd studio sounds behind the more traditional instruments. There’s a music player on the site that allows you to hear the record’s songs in conjunction with an odd little slide show.

Fans are probably salivating over the thought of David Byrne tickets, which are on sale now, though the string of performances that are scheduled are sans Eno. The man hasn’t graced a stage in a long time, which isn’t surprising considering how much of his work is done in studios. Still, fans hold out hope that he’ll eventually come back to doing live performances. He’s seems rather fickle when it comes to these things, though.

Regardless, if you’re looking for concert tickets to the Byrne shows, check out Stubhub.com.

Jackson Browne suing John McCain

August 19, 2008

By this point in the presidential campaign, we’ve seen quite a few minor tussles over what songs are or are not appropriate for rallying supporters. Rule number one for campaign managers: Check the voting record of any artist whose songs you use. In the case of John McCain, this includes Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty.”

According to Billboard, McCain used the song in an ad criticizing Barack Obama over energy policy, specifically over Obama’s suggestion that properly inflated tires could conserve gas usage. Like most songs used in commercials (political or not), Browne’s song has little to say about the issue other than the implicit message its title. Browne is apparently not a McCain fan, and has sued the candidate for not getting his okay before using the song.
This comes at a time when Browne himself is getting some attention from fans, as he’s on tour and concert tickets are on sale. Jackson Browne tickets are available at Stubhub.com.

A Static Lullaby Bio

August 15, 2008

A random jam session had never worked out so well until the original members of A Static Lullaby played together for the first time, bringing about their resignation from their respective bands at the time in an effort to form one together. Orange County, CA natives Joe Brown, Dan Arnold, Phil Pirrone, Nathan Lindeman and Brett Dinovo came together in 2001.

The quintet seemed to click right from the get-go, crafting an emo-driven, alternative metal sound and performing their first show just two weeks after their formation. The group built themselves a reputation locally and released an EP under their own steam. Shortly thereafter, they were signed to Ferret Records and dropped their 2003 label debut …And Don’t Forget to Breathe. A busy touring schedule ensued and eventually resulted in the departure of Dinovo from the group.

The now-quartet signed on with Columbia and produced their follow-up effort, Faso Latido, with the aid of Gorilla Bits and Youth of Today drummer Sammy Siegler. Before the group could find a permanent replacement for Dinovo, the drummer returned to the group in 2005. This period of reunification would be fleeting though, as Pirrone, Dinovo, and Lindeman would all depart from the group following their stint on the Taste of Chaos tour. Brown and Arnold remained and added guitarist John Death, bassist Dane Poppin and drummer Jarrod Alexander. New lineup intact, A Static Lullaby released a self-titled record in 2006 on their new label, Fearless. The revamped roster did little to alter the raging pace and aggressive sound that the original lineup provided and the album.

A Static Lullaby endured losing half of its members at one point and forged on with characteristic determination. The group is going strong and future releases are expected.
