Kool Keith has a lot to say

If you love weird, quirky hip-hop, then you’re probably already a fan of Kool Keith. He’s operated under many names over the years—the best known of which is Dr. Octagon. These bizarre alter-egos exist in a strange universe of his own creation (and include characters like Black Elvis and Fly Ricky the Wine Taster). There’s some seriously strange stuff happening on any Kool Keith record, from the odd samples to the free-form rhyming patterns that pour out of his mouth.

Keith doesn’t appear to be able to control the weird stuff that comes out of his mouth during interviews, either. During a truly awesome Q&A with Keith on the AV Club, he rants about hip-hop in general, his past albums, and why he hates Simon Cowell. Wait—why does he have beef with Simon Cowell?

“I think for one guy to sit up and judge people and for him to be British at that—who the f*** is he to judge people? To come to America and try to judge people?...I’d respect it if they had an American artist.”

Ahh. Now it’s all clear. Could it be possible Keith is just in character and trying to get people to sit up and notice his new album? Yes. But there’s plenty more entertaining quotes from him in the interview.
