Prince releasing three records in 2009

The Purple One has been in the news recently because of some statements published in the New Yorker that he says inaccurately portrayed his views. Now he’s back with the news that he’ll be releasing three new albums in the new year, according to an LA Times interview recently published with the artist. How awesome is this: The reporter in question was invited up to Prince’s home to listen to some new tracks, plus drive around with him and listen to new music. Along the way, he divulged that, ever the individualist, he’s not going through a label. He told the reporter several times that “the gatekeepers have to change,” and considering the debacles the man has been through with labels, it’s understandable that he feels that way.

Prince also commented on his statements to the New Yorker. In fact, it was one of the first things he told the reporter, suggesting maybe this interview was granted as part of damage control. In any case, his previous comments left him appearing that, as a Jehova’s Witness, he was opposed to gay marriage. He emphasized that part of his religion involves him not voting, and that he studies the Bible with gay friends of his. Another interesting quote regarding the aftermath of Prop. 8: “He added that two sides fighting ’only benefit the third person’ who instigated the fight.”

Interesting news for fans—especially that bit about the records. When he hits the touring circuit again, make sure to get your concert tickets at StubHub.com.
