New Year, New Kelly Clarkson Single
Kelly Clarkson has been out of the spotlight recently, but the American Idol alum is set to release a new single, “My Life Would Suck Without You” Jan. 19 on U.S. radio outlets. The single will usher in her fourth, as-yet-untitled studio record, which is set for release March 17 via RCA. The album is the follow-up to her third studio effort, My December, which was released in 2007 and has moved 780,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. A track list for Clarkson’s forthcoming album hasn’t been released yet, but the singer reportedly worked with producer/songwriter Dr. Luke and OneRepublic leader Ryan Tedder.
Clarkson previously butted heads with RCA exec Clive Davis about her desire to exercise more creative control over her music after her 2004 album Breakaway was a success (she co-wrote several songs on the record). A tour planned in support of My December was canceled (when tickets sales were lower than expected) and reconfigured to allow the singer to play smaller venues. Clarkson signed with manager Narvel Blackstock last fall and subsequently stepped out on a successful tour with his wife, country singer Reca McEntire.
