More Trouble for Jacko
Michael Jackson has been ordered to testify in a suit claiming he owes an Arab sheikh $7 million, but Jackson’s lawyer said today that his client may be too sick to travel to London for the proceedings. Lawyer Robert Englehart said, “It would be unwise for him to travel, given what he’s got now,” declining to elaborate on his client’s illness. Jackson wished to give his testimony by video link from the U.S. but sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s lawyer Bankim Thanki deemed the evidence presented by Jackson’s legal team “very unsatisfactory” and said he could be treated with a simple bandage “if diagnosis is positive.”
This isn’t that strange for Jackson, who is often seen in public wearing a surgical mask and appeared to have a bandage hanging from a hallowed out area where his nose would be during one infamous 2002 court appearance in California. Nigel Sweeney, the judge presiding over the current case, said he would decide if Jackson was fit to travel on Thursday after medical experts from both teams were able to meet. Khalifa, who is the second son of the king of Bahrain, claimed that Jackson accepted millions from the sheikh to produce various projects such as as album, stage play and candid autobiography and reneged the contract.
