Foo Fighting Against McCain

The Foo Fighters have asked Republican presidential candidate John McCain to stop using their song “My Hero” in his campaign.  Apparently the band found out their song was being used by McCain through news reports and have since expressed their displeasure with its use.  “The saddest thing about this is that ‘My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential,” the band said in a statement. “To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

McCain has been asked by other artists, such as John Mellencamp, to stop using their music on previous occasions.  Democratic candidate Barack Obama was asked by Sam Moore to stop using his song “Soul Man.”  Whether McCain plans to stop using the song or not remains to be seen.  “The McCain-Palin campaign respects copyright. Accordingly, this campaign has obtained and paid for licenses from performing rights organizations, giving us permission to play millions of different songs, including ‘My Hero,’” said McCain-Palin spokesman Brian Rogers.  It’s hard to see a band led by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl supporting John McCain.  Can you imagine Kurt Cobain getting on board the McCain train?
