Animal Collective new album generates reviews to match the hype
If you read a lot of indie music blogs, you’re going to be very tired of Animal Collective’s squiggly new cover in 2009. That’s because even though Merriweather Post Pavilion isn’t even out yet, the record is drawing rave reviews and appearing on hosts of music blogs. Stereogum noted that Spin and Pitchfork both gave it glowing endorsements, saying that it was a culmination of everything the band had been experimenting with on previous albums. All the strands seem to come together, as Pitchfork’s review says:
“Merriweather feels like a joyous meeting in a well-earned, middle place—the result of all their explorations pieced together to create something accessible and complete.”
Accessible? Complete? Do these words belong together with a review of Animal Collective? To be fair, the band has always had some pop structure buried under their experimental sheen, though some of their songs do go off the deep end. Fans are sure to be grabbing at concert tickets, and can find more Animal Collective tickets at StubHub.com.
