Check out the AV Club’s take on the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack

Where the Wild Things Are is going to be one of the biggest movies this fall—we can tell. But how will the soundtrack fare? Well, if the AV Club’s review is accurate, it fares pretty well. With Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs helming the project, and several other notable indie-rock figures joining her. Not surprisingly, the album has a pretty feral sound, mixing lots of yelping choruses with a whole cacophony of instruments. That said, this isn’t the noise-rock she’s known for creating with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It’s definitely more melodic. But it’s also really, really emotionally turbulent. Listening to the first few tracks leaves you breathless from the roller coaster of highs and lows. There’s anger, sadness, a whole storm brewing on one track, and throughout it all, the explosive energy of being a kid.
It’s definitely worth picking up if you have the chance. No word on whether any of this material will appear at live shows, but if it does, then make sure you pick up concert tickets in order to see Karen O. take on these gorgeous songs.
