Brian Wilson interview reveals…very little

Brian Wilson has cultivated a mystique as a mysterious eccentric for a reason. Much has been written about the revered songwriter and arranger, but the press have little to work with when it comes to interviews. As this recent chat with Pitchfork reveals, Wilson cuts out any fluff when talking to reporters. In fact, he cuts out so much that there isn’t much left as an answer.

It’s a strange interview, and the interviewer definitely held their own trying to press him for details or draw him out. But Wilson was having none of it. When asked about a song called “Heartbeat of L.A.”—and more specifically, why he called it as such—his response was pretty curt: “I don’t know, I just thought, “Heartbeat of L.A.”

You might not get much illumination on the man through the interview, but it’s interesting to read anyways. Wilson says he doesn’t see himself getting back together with the Beach Boys any time in the future, but you can catch the rest of the band performing live on tour right now. Concert tickets are selling quickly. Get Beach Boys tickets at Stubhub.com.
