Billboard Legend of Live Award for Allman Brothers

The Allman Brothers Band will receive the Legend of Live award at the 2008 Billboard Touring Awards. The prestigious award will be handed out Nov. 20 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. According to Billboard, the Legend of Live Award “recognizes a touring professional who has had a significant and lasting impact on the concert industry.” In the past, the Rolling Stones promoter Michael Cohl (2004), Cellar Door Concerts founder Jack Boyle (2005), Sir Elton John (2006) and agent Frank Barsalona (2007), have received the Legend of Live accolade.

The awards reception will close the fifth annual Billboard Touring Conference (Nov. 19-20) and other top-performing tours, artists, venues and promotion companies will be honored as well. The Allman Brothers Band are about the celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2009 and Billboard’s executive director of content and programming, touring and live entertainment, Ray Waddell, hails them “an American institution and concert icons.”
