Antony of Antony and the Johnsons is now a visual artist

Antony and the Johnsons is probably best known in indie circles as a cult band—albeit one that is fiercely loved by its fans. But Antony Hegarty, the lead singer of the band, is about to expand his resume, adding visual artist to his abilities. A couple examples of his work are displayed on Pitchfork today, along with some information and helpful links about his first exhbit. The exhibition, called The Creek, will be available at the Isis Gallery in London from Jan. 17 to Feb. 28. The work has an ethereal quality to it, and the gallery draws comparisons to sketches done by William S. Burroughs and Antonin Artaud.

From the site: “Antony’s artworks open up dream landscapes: often fragmentary in appearance, these images map his dreams and liminal states; polymorphic realms give way to indicated spirits; pen marks and scratches conjure archetypes and invite conscious and unconscious visions to emerge.”

That’s all very well if you live in England. But if you’re looking to see (and hear) Antony, you’ll need concert tickets for someplace closer. Get Antony and the Johnsons tickets at StubHub.com.
