Weezer sets out to break some records
If Weezer’s video for “Pork and Beans” didn’t break a record for “most Internet celebrities shown in one music video,” then it’s only because no one’s attempted what they did before. Now, the precedent-setting alt-rock band is doing it again for another single off their “Red Album,” “Troublemaker.”
But the records they plan to establish are going to be official. They got a huge crowd of fans together and basically spent a day breaking zany records, like forming the world’s largest game of dogeball, most people in a custard pie fight, largest air guitar ensemble and most people riding a skateboard. They apparently got 22 people on one skateboard, according to Pitchfork.
Pitchfork also has a link to the video itself, which looks like the band and its fans had incredible fun making. Any fan of Weezer, and especially of their new album, should check it out.

TV on the Radio’s Tude Adebimpe collaborating on side project
Breaking news from the A.V. Club regarding a possible new project involving three talented geniuses, with TV on the Radio vocalist Tude Adebimpe being one of them.
Adebimpe, Mike Patton of Faith No More and Adam “Doseone” Drucker of cLOUDEAD are apparently collaborating together on…something. It’s kind of under wraps right now, but this bit of information slipped out when the Club intreviewed Adebimpe. Apparently the full interview will be posted sometime later this month, so you’ll have to keep checking the site for that. But for now, a blog post about the project is enough to get fans of any of those three bands excited. Adebimpe had little to add other than that they were working together, it came from an idea Adam had and it involves the three of them messing around vocally.
The link to the A.V. Club post includes three videos from each band, giving you a taste of their differing styles. If you can’t wait to hear Adebimpe’s voice, you could always spring for concert tickets to an upcoming show. Get TV on the Radio tickets at Stubhub.com.
Madonna Kicks off Tour
Madonna kicked off her “Sticky and Sweet” tour this past weekend and showed that she hasn’t lost a step when it comes to performing. A somewhat surprising part of the show came when she toned it down for an acoustic set for which she played guitar. During the acoustic set, Madonna winked at the crowd as she sung the chorus to a song from her movie Evita, “You must love me.” One cannot deny that this sentiment was abundantly true at the sold-out arena and is among Madonna fans around the world.
Madonna might not be the most talented singer or dancer in the music industry, but she sure knows how to put on a heck of a performance on stage, as she has been doing so for what seems like forever. Though her sound has been altered a lot over the years to follow suit with an ever-changing music industry and fickle mainstream audience, she has remained one of pop music’s icons through three decades. During the kickoff concert, Madonna performed the gauntlet of her discography, from the ‘80s hits that helped her get her start, through the ‘90s hits that proved she wasn’t going to fade away, to the 2000s tracks that have solidified her as a bonafide superstar. From the sound of it, this tour is one that fans do not want to miss.

Nov. 25 Release Date for Kanye West
Kanye West made a surprise cameo at fellow rapper T.I.’s MySpace-sponsored performance in Los Angeles on Friday, but the real shock came when he announced a Nov. 25 release date for his upcoming album, 808s and Heartbreak. The Def Jam album was slated for a Dec. 16 release date, but West told the audience that he had just arrived in L.A. after wrapping up the album in Hawaii. West then confirmed that “Heartless” would be the album’s second single (“Love Lockdown” was 808s and Heartbreak’s lead single) and launched into a performance of the song.
“Love Lockdown” debuted at a career-best No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold 402,000 digital downloads, according to Nielson Soundscan. The original release date for West’s new album would have positioned the rapper a week behind 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct and thus launched battle of the albums:part two. In Sept. 2007 West’s Graduation and 50’s Curtis were both released on the 11th and West’s album outsold 50’s 957,000 to 691,000 in its debut week.
