Tunde Adebimpe solo record coming out!
Fans of TV on the Radio understand that a big part of the band’s sound comes from the distinctive vocals of singer Tunde Adebimpe. Combined with their mix of indie rock and synthesizer beats, they have a very original sound. But now it seems that hardcore fans interested in hearing what Adebimped is capable of himself will get an opportunity to hear him perform solo.
Adebimpe is releasing a solo 7”. It has to be said that it looks awesome. Check out the record art at Pitchfork, where they’re hosting a good-sized image. The art of vinyl has definitely been lost, seeing as CDs and now digital music is so much more convenient to store. But this is really a masterpiece, even if you don’t care about vinyl. Called Fake Male Voice, it includes the songs “Cou Cou Nou Les Nuages” and “OMG!!! FMV!!!”
Of course, you can still see Adebimpe performing with the rest of the band. TV on the Radio tickets are plentiful over at StubHub. Go there now and get some concert tickets!
Beatles video game coming out
Brace yourselves for this one. Kotaku.com notes that the Beatles music has been licensed for a new video game. Apparently the sources in question emphasized that this isn’t Rock Band or Rock Band 2 we’re talking about here. It’s a whole new game, though it is similar in the sense that it’s based around “performing” music from the Beatles catalog.
Harmonix is the company that makes the Rock Band games, and they’re obviously very well respected in the industry right now. With that reputation preceding them, Apple Corps. and MTV teamed up with Harmonix to create the exclusive game. There don’t appear to be a whole lot of details as of now—just that you’ll “play” through the band’s entire cataloge, from their first record to their last. Here’s an interesting quote on Kotaku: “Visual exploration of the Beatles will be a big part of the game, though they were not prepared to discuss more on that at this time.”
This is, frankly, a quirky idea for a video game. Still, if it’s done well, it could be very cool. We’ll just have to wait and see as more details emerge.
While you can’t see the band itself, you can see one of the best tributes to them on Earth by getting Fab Faux tickets. Concert tickets can be found at StubHub.com.
Europe Is on Hold For Newman
Randy Newman has decided to take his doctor’s orders and postpone his upcoming trip to Europe, according to Pollstar.com. The journey was set to begin on November 1 in Berlin, Germany. Newman’s record label has cited the causes of stenosis in the lower back and neck causing severe limitations and severe pain. Newman has re-assured fans that he still plans on making it over to Europe once he starts feeling better. He has stated that he loves touring Euope because he always gets a warm reception and is treated well over there.
Randy Newman is a well-known American singer/songwriter, composer and pianist who is respected for his many pop songs as well as his contributions to many film scores. He gained prominence in the sixties and seventies and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. If you are a big fan, keep an eye on Randy and be sure to get your pair of Randy Newman tickets from Stubhub.com when he goes back on tour.
Michael Jackson syas he won’t be part of Jackson 5 reunion
Well, make it Jackson 4. On the heels of the recent announcement that Jackson 5 will reunite for a tour in 2009 Michael Jackson announced that he will not participate. In a statement obtained from Billboard, Jackson said, “My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we’ve certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them. I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon.” Jackson’s brother Jermaine was the family member who let the cat out of the bag during a TV industry function in Sydney. Jermaine was in Australia Oct. 29 to help launch a new “greatest hits: TV channel for Foxtel and said the reunion was “a long time coming for the Jackson family to get back together,” in a statement to the Australian Associate Press. Janet will reportedly open and then the original Jackson 5 (minus Michael) will take the stage.
While you wait for the big reunion, secure Janet Jackson tickets to see the baby of the family perform live and check back at StubHub.com for tickets to the reunion.
Tom Jones is Feeling Sorry
After many years of taking on the role of being a “ladies man” Tom Jones finally aplogized to his wife, who stood by him for more than half a century as he pursued his career. In a new song, “The Road,” Jones tells his wife, Linda that he knows that he caused her pain. The tune is the first song that he has publicly dedicated to his wife. Jones has been with Linda since they were childhood sweethearts in the South Wales mining town of Pontypridd.
Jones says in his lyrics, “Felt the weakness when I was strong/Held sweetness, when it was wrong.” He also goes on to say that he has seen her crying “tears of rain” and left her “shattered on the ground,” but he promises, “The road always returns to you, and my love, it still belongs to you.” If you are a longtime Jones fan, be sure to get your Tom Jones tickets from Stubhub.com.
Neil Young Supports Strikers
Neil Young canceled tonight’s show at the Los Angeles Forum because of strikers. Young, who just finished his annual Bridge School Benefit outside San Francisco over the weekend, was advised that the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) union, Local 33, planned to picket his show at the Forum because striking workers at the indoor arena are engaged in a contract dispute with the venue’s owner, Faithful Central Bible Church. Young and his wife are honorary lifetime members of the IATSE and the performer decided to cancel the performance rather than cross what was expected to be a picket line at his show, according to IATSE representatives.
In a statement from San Diego, Young expressed his regret about canceling the performance: “I am extremely disappointed to have to choose between satisfying my fans or backing my brothers and sisters of the IATSE. I will miss playing in Los Angeles and apologize to my fans for the inconvenience this has caused.” Young followed the statement with a performance of “Union Man” from his 1980 album Hawks & Doves. The Los Angeles date will be rescheduled in 2009 and ticket holders can obtain refunds at points of purchase.

New Oasis album coming out
Joe Biden might be a godsend to political news sites, but Noel Gallagher has always been way ahead of him in the public gaffes department (as far as music goes, at least). But fans won’t be cringing over the most recent news he’s generating, that, hot on the heels of the band’s seventh record, an eighth is already largely penned and has been demoed.
Gallagher told Billboard that it would be “vastly different” from the Oasis album that came out just a few weeks ago, Dig Out Your Soul. Apparently he had already written some of the songs on this eighth record while working on Soul, but “ran out of time” to record them, according to The Guardian. Also tantalizingly out of reach is the prospect of a solo record, which still remains to be seen, and which Gallagher claims he’s still very interested in recording some day soon. Fans will just have to keep an eye out for both.
If you haven’t already bought concert tickets to see the band, now is the time. Get Oasis tickets at StubHub.com.
Is it Angus Young or Clark Kent?
When are you too old to wear a school boy outfit? Probably most people around the world would say…16? 17?
In any case, Angus Young clearly never got the memo. It’s been 34 years since he first donned the outfit as part of Australian rock band AC/DC, and he’s still appearing on stage in those ridiculously high-cut shorts. The man is clearly dedicated to his audience. But he’s a professional, and like any professional going to work, he has a uniform he’s expected to wear—it even involves a collar and tie.
Rolling Stone has an extensive and very interesting interview with AC/DC, which any fan will be excited to see. Even if you don’t want to read the whole thing, check out the opening paragraphs, about how, 20 minutes to every show, Young disappears only to emerge in his trademark outfit. Like Clark Kent, as the band’s vocalist, Brian Johnson, points out.
If you haven’t seen them in a while, now’s the chance to get concert tickets. AC/DC tickets are available at StubHub.com.
Halloween Goes Dark at Springsteen Mansion
Halloween usually brought all of the trick or treaters to Bruce Springsteen’s New Jersey mansion because the famous rocker and his wife put on an elaborate display every year. But this year, the lights will be dim and the goblins and ghosts will be missing from the property as the couple have chosen not to go all out this year. Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa have told the press that too many visitors to the neighborhood started raising concerns for the welfare of those who live in the area.
Don’t panic though, because Halloween is alive and well elsewhere throughout the country and you can certainly find some scary mansion to relish in the joys of this spooky holiday. Of course if your real passion is good ole rock n’ roll music you might want to peruse through Stubhub’s website to find a pair of Bruce Springsteen tickets.
