DJ Tiesto interview

July 16, 2008

If you’re an electronic music fan, you’ve probably heard the work of Dutch DJ Tiesto. His talent for working up a crowd is nigh legendary, and he’s made a name for himself in the dancehalls and clubs across the world. The internationally renowned beat master recently gave an interview to Courant.com, which offers some insight into the man whose work everyone has danced to.
What exactly is a DJs work? Like a musical supercomputer, Tiesto knows what techno and samples to play at just the right time to either raise the energy in the room or give dancers a breather. It’s a lot of intuitive work that requires you to be in tune with your crowd. Judging by his popularity and the way concert tickets sell out, it seems Tiesto knows what he’s doing.

Photos: Girl Talk at work

July 16, 2008

For most of us, work entails a commute in the morning, some coffee, eight hours of drudgery, and a commute home. For Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, it involves fists being pumped in the air and people shaking tail. And a headband.

There’s a great review of a recent Girl Talk show here, with photos of the frenzied crowd as well. Gillis is known for getting crazy at his amazing live shows, sometimes stripping down to his underwear while mashing up hip-hop, rock, techno, and your high school prom playlist into a bizarre but funkefying sonic stew. Concert tickets to his shows basically guarantee a good time.

Unfamiliar with the wizard on the decks? Get to know him in person: Girl Talk tickets are available at Stubhub.com.

Nigel Godrich fans have some good news

July 16, 2008

While Thom Yorke, Colin and Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway get to steal most of the spotlight, Radiohead has an extra, unofficial member, though he rarely leaves the studio. Producer Nigel Godrich is famous throughout the world for his talents, but is best-known for being the constant companion of Radiohead and producing most of their albums.

Those fans who like his work will be excited to know that the television music program he produces, From the Basement, is coming to the Independent Film Channel in September. In the past, he’s featured artists like PJ Harvey, the White Stripes and–of course–Radiohead.

No TV performance can compare to seeing the band live, though. Fortunately, concert tickets for their shows are still available. Just look up Radiohead tickets at Stubhub.com.
