Where Bon Jovi fans and New Yorkers intersect

July 2, 2008

If you live in New York, love baseball, and love Bon Jovi, than you’re in for a real treat. Jon Bon Jovi recently announced that he and his band will be playing a free concert in Central Park July 12, set a few days before the July 15 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Perfect timing, and a perfect way to enjoy July in The Big Apple.

It won’t be televised, so this is definitely the kind of thing you want to take advantage of. Artists this big don’t often give free performances, and this will be one that fans will be talking about for a long time yet. Expect more than a few Bon Jovi fans to drive in from New Jersey to see this great musical performer rock out on stage live (and for free).

If one concert isn’t enough for you, than consider getting Bon Jovi tickets to the band’s other shows. Concert tickets can be found at Stubhub.com.

Akon, Michael Jackson and holding hands

July 2, 2008

Let’s try that heading again: “Holding Hands,” a new track by Akon that’s expected to appear on his upcoming third album, has leaked all over the ‘net. And guess who’s the guest collaborator on that song? None other that the King of Pop himself. That should be an interesting song.

MTV News reports a little more about what the song sounds like and what the collaboration experience was like for Akon. He clearly reveres the man, and it was a special experience working with him: “Just to be in the same room [with him], I felt everything I wanted to accomplish in life has been achieved,” Akon said. “That aura … that’s how incredible that aura is. We about to shake the world up, man.”

Read more about it here. Looking to hear that song live? Maybe Akon will play it at a live show, but don’t expect Jackson to be there. Akon tickets, along with any other concert tickets you might want, are at Stubhub.com.

Radiohead interview!

July 2, 2008

The A.V. Club scores major points for snagging an amazing interview with Thom Yorke and Ed O’Brien of Radiohead. It’s largely about In Rainbows, but in the lengthy discussion they manage to touch on all sorts of interesting details about the band’s recording process, losing momentum after an album and erotic landscapes.

Yes, erotic landscapes. Leave that bit up to Stanley Donwood, the artist responsible for most of the cover art and imagery the band sports on its records. That next album sounds like its going to be great to look at. According to O’Brien, Donwood usually hangs around wherever the band is practicing or recording, sometimes in studio, sometimes nearby. His role is partly cheerleader, but largely to have heard the new music as often as the band members have, and use that to inform the art that goes with it.

The interview is a great read, and will probably get you fired up to buy Radiohead tickets for this year. Concert tickets can be found at Stubhub.com.
