Roger Hodgson Bio
Roger Hodgson
Profile:
Roger Hodgson has been recognized as one of the most gifted composers, songwriters and lyricists of our time penning most of Supertramp’s greatest hits. He is the writer and legendary voice of ”Give a Little Bit“, ”The Logical Song“, ”Dreamer“, ”Take the Long Way Home“, ”Breakfast In America“, ”Fool’s Overture“ and so many others that have become the soundtrack of our lives. When people hear Rogers voice, that is the voice they think of as Supertramp.
At 19, Hodgson had just released his first single, accompanied by session musician, Reg Dwight, who later became Elton John. Following that, Hodgson, along with Rick Davies, co-founded the progressive rock band Supertramp in 1969 and was with them for 14 years before leaving Los Angeles and the music business to live a simple life in Northern California raising his kids. The band continued performing periodically, yet never had as much success after he left. Hodgson built a home studio to continue to be creative and produced several solo albums and a #1 DVD. His songs have remarkably stood the test of time and have earned Roger an adoring worldwide following. He is a multi-talented musician performing on keyboard, guitar and piano, doing solo, band, and orchestra concerts worldwide.
When people hear Roger’s recognizable signature voice, they think of Supertramp. And when he left the band they continued performing periodically, yet never had as much success after he left the band.
2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Breakfast in America, which was in the top of the charts worldwide for over a year in 1979. It also marks the 35th anniversary of Crime of the Century and 40th for the formation of Supertramp.
And thirty-five years after writing his classic songs, in 2005 & 2007, he was honored with awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers for his songs “Give A Little Bit” and “Breakfast in America”, proving that his music truly stands the test of time. Hodgson has also won the Ivor Novello Awards from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters for “The Logical Song”, which is also one of the most quoted lyrics in schools.
Roger has donated his time and song, “Give a Little Bit”, to help raise funds for Tsunami Relief, Red Cross, UNICEF, Hurricane Katrina efforts and other worthy causes. He continues to be a prolific composer, with more than 60 songs yet to be released. His first DVD, "Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal" hit #1 and multi-platinum in Canada and was released worldwide in 2007. www.RogerHodgson.com
