Mary Martin Missed Out on Jackson

Anyone who has been in the country music scene very long has undoubtedly heard of Mary Martin. Martin is a music exec who is known for her impeccable taste in top talent. She was recently honored at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s Louise Scruggs Memorial Forum. Some of the stars she has helped discover include Emmylou Harris and Vince Gill. She also tried to get Warner Bros to sign Alan Jackson collaborator Jimmy Buffett, but they refused—a decision they inevitably regret now.

No matter how amazing her career has been, Martin admits that her judgment isn’t always spot-on. She revealed, “I missed Alan Jackson, Keith Urban and Trisha Yearwood.”

Those are some pretty big names to pass up on, especially considering how well Jackson has done over the years. His hits include “Don’t Rock the Jukebox,” “Love’s Got a Hold On You,” “Summertime Blues,” “I Don’t Even Know Your Name,” “Little Bitty,” “Where I Come From,” “Small Town Southern Man” and “Country Boy.” Along with his new hits, he still performs many of those favorites at his concerts. Jackson Talks About His Daughters

Country Superstar Alan Jackson may seem like a good ol’ country boy, but at home, there is more than a little estrogen around. Jackson shares a home with his wife, Denise, as well as his three daughters, 19-year-old Mattie, 16-year-old Ali and 12-year-old Dani.

According to his interview in People, Jackson seems to be a very hands-on father. He said, “When my agent is getting ready to book the year, he puts the calendar for the girls’ school on first, and they work my schedule around that. That’s just the way it is. We’ve been blessed with sweet and healthy and beautiful girls that have been a real joy to watch grow up.”

There is one very normal part about his relationship with his girls: the girls routinely express their opinions about everything from Jackson’s wardrobe to his jokes. He said, “If I wear something they think is stupid looking, they’ll tell me, and they’ll tease me about the goofy jokes I tell.”

Jackson has been a committed family man for years, and it is one of the many attributes that his fans love. Catch him live in concert by getting Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Underwood is a Jackson Fan

Carrie Underwood may not have the traditional sound of Alan Jackson, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a fan of his down-home country sound. In a recent interview with the Fay Observer, Underwood revealed that she loves Jackson and also sees a place for a variety of styles in the country scene.

She said, “I loved Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn, those were the people that really first made me love country music. Then there were people like Bryan White who were, like, coming on the scene. And he was like one of the people that was like ‘OK, they don’t have to all sound like this.’ People can sound all kind of ways. And he was young and hot. I’ve had people tell me, ‘I never listened to country music until I saw you on American Idol, and now I’ve been to a Rascal Flatts concerts, and I went and saw so and so.’ And it’s wonderful that we all kind of have our place in country music and we all pull listeners in for different reasons, and because of that we can hear everything.”

Jackson isn’t the type of singer for those who like a lot of pop with their country, but he has one of the most loyal fan bases out there. See him live in concert with Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Denise and Alan Reflect on Marriage

Being famous and married for more than a decade is quite a feat for anyone in the spotlight, but few have excelled at it as much as country superstar Alan Jackson and his wife Denise. Next month, Alan and Denise will mark three decades together as a couple, and they talked to People about their secrets to success.

Denise revealed, “I’m grateful that we actually have survived it. I mean, we were just children of 19 and 21, so just the fact that we’re still together and have a wonderful family and are happier than we have ever been.”

Her husband added, “I would have to agree with all of that. Just the fact that she has hung in there with me is a chore. She’s lasted long enough for me to mellow out and probably easier for me to live with, so that’s a good thing.”

To see how far the couple has come over the years, fans can just check out the video to Alan Jackson’s hit song “Remember When” where he talks about their relationship. The video also features Denise and Alan dancing. Of course, you can also hear the song live when you get Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Alan Jackson Is True Country

Is country music cool again? That seems to be the debate around the music world as a whole, but the discussion goes much deeper than that. For years, country has been seen as the traditional and conservative arm of the music scene, which caused many to shun its sound. One writer at The Breeze has fought first-hand with discrimination because of her love affair with country music, specifically Alan Jackson.

She wrote, “Indeed, I was country when country wasn’t cool. Until age 10, I desperately wanted a career as a country singer. I owned a personal cowgirl ensemble and wore the outfit everywhere from the supermarket to a Reba McEntire concert. I was ridiculed in my suburban elementary school for preferring Alan Jackson to Ace of Base, but country music was, in many ways, my first love, and I have never abandoned it.”

George Jones already stated that he isn’t excited about the popularity of stars like Taylor Swift, who add pop catchiness to traditional country. Jones instead pointed out Jackson as a true country star. The best part about country, though, is that there is room for both. As the article pointed out, country is all about story-telling, and that has been true for decades. See a true traditionalist by getting Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Jackson Gave Vassar a Boost

Alan Jackson may have turned down the chance to record James Otto’s hit, but he has given other songwriters a leg up in the industry by recording their hits. One such artist is Phil Vassar, who is known a star in his own right. His plan wasn’t to be a songwriter first, but that was how the cards fell. Vassar revealed, “I was a performer way before I was a songwriter. I think some record labels did not want to record me because my songs were a little bit cutting edge. But I was fortunate to have some performers like Alan Jackson who wanted to record my songs.”

He continued, “They (the other artists), in a way, kind of went to bat for me. So, when the songs I wrote for other people became No. 1 hits, well then I was a genius in record companies’ eyes.”

The song of his Jackson recorded was the hit “Right on the Money.” Tim McGraw has recorded Vassar’s “For A Little While” and Jo Dee Messina has recorded his “Bye Bye” and “I’m Alright.” Vassar’s hits he recorded himself include “Just Another Day in Paradise,” “That’s When I Love You” and “Love Is a Beautiful Thing.” See Jackson in concert with Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Jackson Turned Down Otto Hit

One man can only have so many hits. Alan Jackson has had more than his fair share of top-charting hits over the years, but he has also turned down the opportunity to record songs that later became hits for other artists. One was the Zac Brown Band favorite, “Chicken Fried.” Now, James Otto has revealed that Jackson also considered recording the song he co-wrote, “In Color.”

The song was eventually recorded by one of the co-writers, Jamey Johnson, and became a hit. Otto revealed that this song has special meaning for him and told The Boot, “As a songwriter, I’ve written probably 1,000 songs in Nashville, literally, and you don’t ever get a song like that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Honestly it means more to me than the success of ‘Just Got Started Lovin’ You’ or any of the other songs I’ve written.”

It seemed as if others agreed, as the single won Song of the Year last night at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards. Jackson didn’t take home any awards this year, but he has won dozens of awards in his two-decade career. Jackson is also known for his amazing live shows, which you can be a part of by getting Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Vote for Alan Jackson on GAC

When it comes to the top names in country music, Alan Jackson is definitely near the top of the list. Now, fans can make sure that his videos are near the top of the list as well. Great American Country TV is letting fans vote on the top country music videos from 2009. The Top 50 videos will be counted down, and fans can vote every day. The eligible videos were released between November 1, 2008 and October 31, 2009.

Alan Jackson has multiple entries on the list, and fans can vote for all of his videos. The three Jackson songs up for vote are “Country Boy,” “Sissy’s Song” and “I Still Like Bologna.” Of course, nearly every other country star also has videos on the list, so Jackson will have some stiff competition. No matter which video is your favorite, an even better experience will be hearing all of his hits live in concert. Don’t wait to get your pair of Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Jackson Impresses Tulsa

Country superstar Alan Jackson played in a favorite place over the weekend: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jackson may be shy in person, but he sure doesn’t show it on stage. He is known as one of the best showmen in all of country music, and his show in Tulsa was another example of why fans will go to extremes to be able to catch him in concert.

The Tulsa Today reviewer wrote of the show, “The easy-going nature of the music fueled the crowd.  Songs of note in Jackson’s set were his opening number ‘Gone Country’, to the slower ‘Remember When’, and the post-9/11 memorial song ‘Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)’.  The song ‘It’s 5:00 Somewhere’, brought in the vocal talents of one Jimmy Buffet to help Jackson sing the final chorus over video. Jackson’s amiable style and aw-shucks banter between songs put the crowd at ease, which wasn’t too far a path to walk.  Jackson told the crowd he was glad to be back in Tulsa and that he enjoyed playing all over Oklahoma.  Overall [sic] his casual style helped make the evening relaxed and fun.”

Fans who were at the show were also treated to the music of up-and-comers Gloriana, who were his openers for the show. See him when he comes near you by getting Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.

Jackson Reveals New Album in the Works

Are you ready for a new Alan Jackson album? Most of his fans can’t wait for any new release from the country superstar. He recently released a collection of songs exclusively at Cracker Barrel called Songs of Love and Heartache, which is mostly songs from Jackson’s famous collection but also includes covers and previously unreleased tracks. For Jackson fans, though, that isn’t the only good news.

Jackson revealed to The Boot, “[Songs of Love and Heartache] has got a couple of new cuts on it that are really cool that I’m glad finally made it on an album. As far as a regular album, we’re just finishing up. A single will come out this month; the album probably March [of] next year.”

With his 20 years in the country music scene, some may be thinking Jackson would be slowing down by now. Luckily for fans, he seems to be releasing albums at the same frantic pace as when he first rose to fame. And each album always contains a bevy of country favorites. One of the best ways to hear Jackson’s hits is to see him live in concert, and you can get Alan Jackson tickets from StubHub.
